1. Modeling and Analysis of the Interaction of Batteries and Power Electronic Converters
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the interaction of batteries and power electronic converters in automotive applications. Even if the additional heating caused by (unwanted) alternating currents is disregarded, there has been a concern that alternating currents can be harmful for batteries. LÄS MER
2. Quantum Coherence in the Single Cooper Pair Box
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents measurements of quantum coherence in a single Cooper pair box, where quantum oscillations of charge between a reservoir and a small superconducting island have been observed. The single Cooper pair box (SCB) consists of a small metallic island which is connected to a reservoir via a tunnel junction. LÄS MER
3. High Temperature Superconducting and Tunable Ferroelectric Microwave Devices
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses some applications of High Temperature Superconductors (HTS) and ferroelectric materials in tunable microwave devices and circuits. The work is divided into three main areas: i) modeling of multilayered structures including ferroelectric layers, ii) realization and characterization of tunable coplanar waveguides (CPW), capacitors and resonators based on ferroelectrics, and iii) an investigation of microstrip HTS K-band filters. 4. Electronic, Transport, and Optical Properties of Broken-Gap Heterostructures
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the physical properties of broken-gap heterostructures using a multiband k.p model and self-consistent calculations. Broken-gap heterostructures, made from InAs, GaSb, and AlSb, are characterized by a special band alignment with an overlap between the InAs conduction band and the GaSb valence band. LÄS MER
5. Silicon-based Photonic Devices : Design, Fabrication and Characterization
Sammanfattning : The field of Information and Communication Technologies is witnessing a development speed unprecedented in history. Moore’s law proves that the processor speed and memory size are roughly doubling each 18 months, which is expected to continue in the next decade. LÄS MER
