  1. 21. Immune and autoimmune responses to HIV-1 in mucosa and other tissues

    Författare :Peter Lundholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of these studies was to evaluate routes and devices for administration of HIV-1 DNA vaccines. In particular we were interested in mucosal routes for the induction of immunity at mucosal surfaces. We studied the effects of a novel mucosal route, jet-injection, for induction of systemic and local responses. LÄS MER

  2. 22. On enchytraeids and naidids: Life history traits and responses to environmental stress

    Författare :Anna-Karin Augustsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; oligochaeta; terrestrial naididae; toxicity testing; asexual reproduction; sexual reproduction; drought; environmental stress; metal pollution; Ekologi; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Sammanfattning : My thesis shows that enchytraeids and naidids are sensitive to various forms of environmental stress, which in combination with the wide distribution of both families make them highly suitable for use in risk assessment and soil monitoring. Enchytraeids were subject to chemical stress under both laboratory and field conditions. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Role of toll-like receptors in host responses to mucosal bacterial infections

    Författare :Fredrik Bäckhed; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The first contact between invading bacteria and the host occurs at the mucosal surface. Interestingly, the mucosal linings of different organs are exposed to bacteria to various degrees. LÄS MER

  4. 24. The role of herbivores in mediating responses of tundra ecosystems to climate change

    Författare :Elina Kaarlejärvi; Johan Olofsson; Anu Eskelinen; Jon Moen; Eric Post; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate change; warming; grazer; Rangifer; Lemmus lemmus; species distribution; biotic interactions; altitude; Environmental Science; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic areas are warming more rapidly than other parts of the world. Increasing temperatures are predicted to result in shrubification, higher productivity, declining species diversity and new species invasions to the tundra. LÄS MER

  5. 25. GARD - Genomic Allergen Rapid Detection. A Testing Strategy for Assessment of Chemical Sensitizers

    Författare :Henrik Johansson; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Nyckelord :In vitro assay. Sensitization. Predictive genomic biomarker signature.;

    Sammanfattning : The modern world is increasingly dependent of the use of chemicals. The chemical industries have greatly contributed to the high standard of living in industrialised societies, and chemical compounds surround us in everyday life. Unfortunately, a vast number of chemicals cause adverse effects on the environment and human health. LÄS MER
