6. Leukocyte receptor alternations during systemic inflammatory responses
Sammanfattning : The leukocyte adhesion molecule CD llb is very important when granulocytes and monocytes leave the blood stream. This adhesion molecule is stored preformed intracellularly, and can upon stimulation of the cells by, for example, complement split products, be mobilized to the cell surface. LÄS MER
7. Benthic environmental responses to climatic changes during the late Quaternary: a micropalaeontological and geochemical approach
Sammanfattning : There is a limited understanding of how the benthic environment within upwelling regions responded to past rapid climatic changes. Within this thesis, a multiproxy approach is applied to two marine sediment cores from two coastal upwelling sites in the low latitude subtropical Atlantic. LÄS MER
8. Precise cell manipulations and imaging of cellular responses : Methods developed using microfluidic, 3D-printing and microfabrication technologies
Sammanfattning : It is at the heart of biological and medical research to try and understand how cells communicate with each other, and how cells respond to alterations in their environment, including treatment with different drugs. There is in this context a continued need for better methods that allow researchers to precisely manipulate cells and their microenvironment and to study the resulting responses using high-resolution live microscopy. 9. Characterization and environmental influences on inflammatory and physiological responses
Sammanfattning : Pharmaceuticals are regularly released into the environment, in particular nonsteroidalanti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and antibiotics. The measuredconcentrations are relatively low and have therefore been considered to be harmless. LÄS MER
10. Plant responses after drainage and restoration in rich fens
Sammanfattning : Rich fens are an important, but threatened, habitat type in the boreal landscape. In this thesis I have examined responses of rich fen vascular plants and bryophytes after drainage and restoration. The effects of drainage on the rich fen flora were observed in a long time study and the responses were rapid and drastic.
