1. Fighting microbial infections with force fields: Evaluating conformational ensembles of intrinsically disordered proteins
Sammanfattning : The main goal of this compilation thesis has been to investigate the conformational ensemble of the intrinsically disordered protein (IDP) histatin 5 by using a mixture of experimental and computational techniques including, but not limited to, small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy, atomistic molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, and coarse-grained Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. Histatin 5 is a peptide of particular interest for two reasons. LÄS MER
2. Two aspects of simulating disorder
Sammanfattning : Histatin 5, an intrinsically disordered protein (IDP) found in the saliva, has been investigated in two studies, and in two different perspectives. In the first study, the structural properties of a conjugated histatin 5 fragment is characterized in an effort to explain its enhanced fungicidal properties. LÄS MER
3. Wrestling with Textual Violence : A Case Study of the Jephthah Narrative in Antiquity and Modernity with Special Regard to Gender
Sammanfattning : How may readers handle the encounter with violence in a “classical text”? The purpose of this thesis is to contribute to the debate on the ethics of biblical interpretation with special regard to feminism. To fulfil that aim, a case study of the narrative of Jephthah is made and its implications are discussed at a more general level. LÄS MER
4. Studien zu Jacob Baldes Jephtias. Ein jesuitisches Meditationsdrama aus der Zeit der Gegenreformation
Sammanfattning : The German poet Jacob Balde (1604-1668) chose a biblical human sacrifice as subject for his tragedy "Jephtias" intended to be performed at a Jesuit school. Jephthah, the judge, had to sacrifice his own daughter due to a vow given before the war against the Ammonites. LÄS MER
5. The book and its narratives : a critical examination of some synchronic studies of the book of Judges
Sammanfattning : During recent decades, there has been a trend among biblical scholars towards applying methods borrowed from literary studies to the familiar texts of the Old and New Testaments. A major reason for this reorientation is the search for a meaningful and interpretable text; hence, it can be seen as a protest against the historical-critical school and its ambition to reconstruct an authentic text by means of a diachronic analysis.
