1. Organic Electrode Battery Materials : A Journey from Quantum Mechanics to Artificial Intelligence
Sammanfattning : Batteries have become an irreplaceable technology in human life as society becomes progressively more dependent on electricity. The demand for novel battery technologies has increased fast, especially with the popularisation of different portable devices. LÄS MER
2. Optical spectroscopy of InGaAs quantum dots
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis deals with optical studies of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) in the InGaAs material system. It is shown that for self-assembled InAs QDs, the interaction with the surrounding GaAs barrier and the InAs wetting layer (WL) in particular, has a very large impact on their optical properties. 3. Materials for advanced energy technology from quantum-mechanical modeling
Sammanfattning : The present thesis addresses promising material solutions for fusion reactors from a theoretical point of view. We focus on two specific systems: W-based alloys used as plasma-facing materials and reduced activation ferritic/martensitic (RAFM, Ferich) steels used as structural materials of breeding-blanket. 4. The Electronic Structure of Organic Molecular Materials : Theoretical and Spectroscopic Investigations
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis the electronic properties of two organic molecules were studied by means of density functional theory (DFT) in connection to their possible applications in organic photovoltaics and molecular spintronics respectively. The first analysed system is the C60 derivative PCBM extensively used in polymer solar cells for the charge separation process. 5. Low dimensional Zinc- and Copper Oxides and their Electronic, Vibrational and Photocatalytic Properties
Sammanfattning : Pollution of water resources is a growing problem in the world and this has drawn the attention to photocatalysis, which is an emerging technology for water purification. In this thesis, low dimensional zinc oxide and copper oxides, which are promising photocatalytic materials, have been studied. LÄS MER
