1. Interfacial behaviour of surfactants and enzymes: studies at model surfaces
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents results from experimental studies of the interfacial behaviour of surfactants and enzymes at model surfaces. The main technique used throughout the work was ellipsometry. LÄS MER
2. Super liquid-repellent surfaces - interactions and gas capillaries
Sammanfattning : Super liquid-repellent surfaces have attracted a lot of interest in recent years. In addition to the large scientific interest there are many potential technological applications ranging from self-cleaning materials to microfluidic devices. LÄS MER
3. Surfactants at non-polar surfaces
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis work was to investigate theadsorption of surfactants to different nonpolar interfaces.Particularly, the effects of the polar group and the nature ofthe hydrophobic interface were elucidated. The interfacialbehavior of the liquid-vapor interface was investigated bymeans of surface tension measurements. LÄS MER
4. Temperature dependent atomic-scale modeling of interfaces in cemented carbides
Sammanfattning : Material properties can now be calculated directly from first principles using density functional theory (DFT) which has a great predictive power and can, in cases that are difficult to approach experimentally, provide crucial insights on the atomic and electronic level. Such cases include the thermodynamics of interfaces and surfaces which are crucial factors for the structure and macroscopic properties of many materials, where cemented carbides are one example. 5. Surface modification of birch and acetylated birch wood by silicone nanofilaments
Sammanfattning : The increasing awareness of sustainability motivates the development of building materials from renewable resources. The requirements of wood-based products with improved durability, for example, enhanced liquid repellence and UV and biological resistance, are still a challenge. LÄS MER
