21. Development and evaluation of non-invasive ultrasonic methods for arterial characterization
Sammanfattning : As cardiovascular diseases have been the most common cause of mortality in the western world for decades, the demand for appropriate diagnostic methods is obvious. To facilitate the examination non-invasive methods are preferable since they do not require sensors within the circulation system. LÄS MER
22. Hormones and fluid balance during pregnancy, labor and post partum
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to determine any association between plasma oxytocin and vasopressin concentrations and renal water and sodium excretion during normal pregnancy. In addition to investigate changes in concentrations of estradiol, progesterone, oxytocin, cortisol, and glucose in the blood before and in the nearest hours after delivery and if treatment with oxytocin affected these concentrations and the fluid balance during the different stages of labour. 23. ATP Dynamics in Pancreatic α- and β-cells
Sammanfattning : Glucose metabolism in pancreatic α- and β-cells is believed to regulate secretion of glucagon and insulin, respectively. In β-cells, ATP links glucose metabolism to electrical activity and insulin secretion. LÄS MER
24. Regulation of aortic wall mechanics and stress : An experimental study in man
Sammanfattning : The abdominal aorta (AA) in man is a vulnerable artery prone to atherosclerosis as well as aneurysmatic dilation. The underlying aortic composition, mechanical properties as well as the mechanisms responsible for age-related changes and vascular disease are however largely unknown. LÄS MER
25. Cyclic AMP Oscillations in Insulin-Secreting Cells
Sammanfattning : Cyclic AMP is an intracellular messenger that regulates numerous processes in various types of cells. In pancreatic β-cells, cAMP potentiates the secretion of insulin by promoting Ca2+ signals and by amplifying Ca2+-triggered exocytosis. Whereas Ca2+ signals have been extensively characterized, little is known about the kinetics of cAMP signals. LÄS MER
