    Sammanfattning : It is known that some psychiatric disorders may deteriorate in relation to the menstrual cycle. However, in some conditions, such as premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), symptomatology is triggered mainly by the variations in ovarian steroid hormones. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Challenges in experimental stroke research : The 17β-estradiol example

    Författare :Edvin Ingberg; Jakob Ström; Elvar Theodorsson; Annette Theodorsson; Tomas Deierborg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Ischemic stroke causes millions of deaths around the world each year, and surviving patients often suffer from long-term disability. Hundreds of promising drug candidates have been identified in animal models, but the clinical trials have repeatedly failed. Lack of methodological quality in the animal studies, e.g. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of sex steroids and tamoxifen on VEGF in the breast

    Författare :Stina Garvin; Charlotta Dabrosin; Lars Holmgren; Linköpings universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Sex steroid exposure constitutes a risk factor for breast cancer, but little is known about the effects of sex steroids on factors mediating angiogenesis, the development of new blood vessels, in normal and malignant breast tissue. In this thesis we have investigated the effects of estradiol, progesterone, and the nonsteroidal anti-estrogen tamoxifen on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptors (VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2) in normal human breast tissue, endothelial cells, and breast cancer. 4. 4. Neuroactive steroids and rat CNS

    Författare :Vita Birzniece; Bo Söderpalm; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Estradiol; progesterone; HRT; allopregnanolone; UC1011; serotonin receptor; GABAA receptor; mRNA; Morris water maze; silent second; tolerance; Clinical Neurophysiology; klinisk neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Several studies suggest profound effects on mood and cognition by neuroactive steroids. Estrogen alone or in combination with antidepressant drugs affecting the serotonin system has been used to treat mood disorders. On the other hand, progesterone is related to negative effects on mood and memory. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of sex steroids and tamoxifen on matrix metalloproteinase activity and generation of endostatin in the breast

    Författare :Ulrika W. Nilsson; Charlotta Dabrosin; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Linköpings universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Sex steroids are inevitable in women. However, long-term exposure to sex steroids increases the risk of breast cancer. A complete understanding of sex steroid control of the breast and how it relates to breast cancer risk is still lacking. LÄS MER
