21. Spectroscopy of semiconductor quantum dots
Sammanfattning : Quantum dots in the Si/Ge and InAs/GaAs materials systems are examined by means of photoluminescence. The spectroscopic study of Si/Ge quantum dots has demonstrated two different radiative recombination channels in the type II band alignment: The spatially direct transition inside the dot and the spatially indirect transition across the dot interface. 22. A tale of two blights
Sammanfattning : Potato is the third most important food crop for human consumption. However, the production is plagued by several pests and pathogens causing yield reducing diseases. Estimations indicate that 17% of the global potato yield is lost due to pests and pathogens. LÄS MER
23. Adipose tissue as an active organ : blood flow regulation and tissue-specific glucocorticoid metabolism
Sammanfattning : Background: Despite advances in the treatment of atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. With the population getting older and more obese, the burden of cardiovascular disease may further increase. LÄS MER
24. Leukocyte receptor alternations during systemic inflammatory responses
Sammanfattning : The leukocyte adhesion molecule CD llb is very important when granulocytes and monocytes leave the blood stream. This adhesion molecule is stored preformed intracellularly, and can upon stimulation of the cells by, for example, complement split products, be mobilized to the cell surface. LÄS MER
25. Preventing pressure ulcers by assessment of the microcirculation in tissue exposed to pressure
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to combine optical methods into a system with the ability to simultaneously measure blood flow changes at different tissue depths. The goal of such a system was to reveal vascular mechanisms relevant to pressure ulcer etiology under clinically relevant conditions and in relation to the evaluation of pressure-redistribution support surfaces.
