21. Colour – A Reliable Quality-Control Tool for Industrial Thermowood® Production
Sammanfattning : The objective of the work presented in this doctoral thesis has been to correlate the commercial output of ThermoWood® process with a pre-defined, quantifiable, non-destructive measurable parameter - colour, and to show the feasibility of measurements to be the essential part of the internal and external quality-control system. Colour is the most evident property changed of thermally-modified timber (TMT). LÄS MER
22. Physical and morphological aspects of linseed oil impregnated pine (Pinus Sylvestris)
Sammanfattning : This work has investigated the possibilities of increasing wood durability using environmentally friendly chemicals. The chemical used in this study was linseed oil. The study also investigated flow paths during impregnation in pine and spruce. LÄS MER
23. Patterning during embryo development in Pinus : with special emphasis on somatic embryogenesis in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.)
Sammanfattning : Somatic embryogenesis is an attractive method to propagate conifers vegetatively. However, many species belonging to Pinus are recalcitrant to somatic embryo development. The overall aim of this thesis has been to gain a better understanding of the developmental pathway leading to cotyledonary somatic embryos of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris). LÄS MER
24. Cell wall bulking and distribution of different chemicals in pine, Pinus Sylvestris
Sammanfattning : The interaction between wood, Pinus sylvestris, (60% RH) and polyethyleneglycol (PEG) of different molecular weights (PEG 200 and PEG 1500), pentaerythritol and glycerol, impregnated into the wood, has been investigated using Scanning Electron Microscopy, EDS-analysis, dynamical mechanical techniques (DMTA), X-ray diffraction (WAXS) and macroscopic dimensional measurement. Reduced dimensional changes after impregnation when exposed to environments with changing moisture content, showed that the stabilization effect of glycerol and PEG 200 impregnation is very good. 25. Summer Climate Variability during the Past 1200 Years in Central Scandinavia – A Tree-Ring Perspective
Sammanfattning : To set the current 20th century warming in a long-term context, significant efforts have been made to reconstruct hemispheric-to-global temperatures beyond the instrumental period. Tree-rings, which have annual resolution and can be precisely dated, have been widely used to infer past climate variability. LÄS MER
