  1. 1. Predation on marine pelagic bacteria : On the in situ rates, regulation and dynamics of bacterivory studied with a molecular genetic technique

  2. 2. Food web structures and carbon transfer efficiencies in a brackish water ecosystem

    Författare :Kristin Dahlgren; Ulf Båmstedt; Agneta Andersson; Marja Koski; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon transfer efficiency; Food web efficiency; zooplankton; production; pelagic; benthic; fatty acids; wax esters; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Two differently structured food webs can be distinguished in the pelagic habitat of aquatic systems; the classical one (autotrophic) with phytoplankton as a base and the microbial food web (heterotrophic) with bacteria as a base. Energy (produced at the basal trophic level) reaches higher trophic levels, i.e. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Factors controlling pelagic communities of freshwater ciliates and heliozoans

    Författare :Ulrika Stensdotter-Blomberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; ciliates; heliozoans; freshwater; nutrients; predation; microbial food web; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; limnologi; Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : Ciliate diversity and seasonal succession were studied during two years in oligotrophic,acidic Lake Njupfatet. Maximum ciliate abundance occurred shortly after ice-out. After thefirst year, the lake was neutralised by liming. Liming caused changes in the bacterioplanktonand phytoplankton communities, but no change in ciliate diversity. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Baltic cod predation: mechanisms, impact on prey, implications for fisheries

    Författare :Nataliia Kulatska; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Trophic interactions are fundamental in the functioning of ecosystems. Predator-prey interactions between cod (Gadus morhua), herring (Clupea harengus) and sprat (Sprattus sprattus) in the Baltic Sea are typical examples of strong trophic interactions with consequences on the structure of this ecosystem. 5. 5. Effects of warming and nutrient enrichment on feeding behavior, population stability and persistence of consumers and their resources

    Författare :Wojciech Uszko; Sebastian Diehl; Lennart Persson; David Vasseur; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; consumer-resource; Daphnia; functional response; nutrient enrichment; parameter estimation; persistence; plankton; predator-prey; stability; temperature; type II; type III; warming;

    Sammanfattning : Consumer-resource interactions are the basic building blocks of every food web. In spite of being a central research theme of longstanding interest in ecology, the mechanisms governing the stability and persistence of consumer-resource interactions are still not entirely understood.
