1. Nuclear Intonation in Swedish : Evidence from Experimental-Phonetic Studies and a Comparison with German
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates Swedish intonation patterns and their interaction with word accent realisation in various pragmatic conditions, using German as a reference language. The point of departure is the wide-spread assumption that Swedish, as a language with a tonal word accent distinction, has a considerably smaller repertoire of nuclear intonation contours than German and other so-called intonation languages. 2. Multicarrier Modulation and Coding for Multichannel Systems
Sammanfattning : In this thesis decision directed coherent detectors for single- and multicarriersystems employing an MMSE channel estimation technique is presented. Thedetectors are designed for Rayleigh fading channels and DQPSK or p/4-DQPSKmodulation and exploit knowledge of the fading process correlation. LÄS MER
3. Decoding the Structural Layer of Transcriptional Regulation : Computational Analyses of Chromatin and Chromosomal Aberrations
Sammanfattning : Gene activity is regulated at two separate layers. Through structural and chemical properties of DNA – the primary layer of encoding – local signatures may enable, or disable, the binding of proteins or complexes of them with regulatory potential to the DNA. LÄS MER
4. Adverbs : A typological study of a disputed category
Sammanfattning : The notion adverb is often treated as encompassing leftover items in a class that shows little consistency both within and across languages. Adverbs are less frequent than other parts of speech cross-linguistically, they seldom inflect, and they are rarely used as a source for derivation to other categories. LÄS MER
5. Technology for biocomputational devices based on molecular motors
Sammanfattning : For many multivariable problems there are no efficient algorithms for finding solutions. To this day, conventional electronic computers mainly solve problems in a sequential manner. This sequential operation prevents problem-solving within a reasonable time-frame due to superpolynomial, and sometimes even exponential, time complexities. LÄS MER
