16. Managing coastal eutrophication : Land-sea and hydroclimatic linkages with focus on the Baltic coastal system
Sammanfattning : Eutrophication endangers coastal ecosystems all over the world and is most often associated with an increase in anthropogenic nutrient loads to coastal waters, which fuel the growth of algae and create a variety of environmental problems. This is also the case for the Baltic Sea where coastal waters may be affected by various land, coast-sea, and hydroclimatic drivers and feedbacks, over different scales, including the eutrophic open sea. 17. Actors at the interface between socio-technical and ecological systems: Analytical starting point for identifying mitigation possibilities in the case of on-site sewage systems
Sammanfattning : The thesis addresses several issues related to factors influencing actors around environmental problems to decrease the environmental pressures. Systems treating sewage at the scale of one to a few households (on-site sewage systems, OSSs) comprise a Swedish case study. LÄS MER
18. Drainage intensity in paddy rice fields : nitrogen flows, salinity, rice yield and greenhouse gas emissions
Sammanfattning : Managing drainage intensity is important in controlling soil moisture and nutrient losses and improving crop yields. This thesis evaluated the effects of drainage intensity on nitrogen losses, salinity and rice grain yield in three cropping seasons, and on gaseous emissions of methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) from rice flowering to ripening in one season, on a marshland in semiarid region of Rwanda. 19. Arthropods in Constructed Wetlands : Ecosystem Processes and Riparian Biodiversity
Sammanfattning : Constructed wetlands in the agricultural landscape are known to harbor immense arthropod biodiversity, however, riparian arthropod communities have often been neglected compared to aquatic communities when studying environmental responses. These wetlands are highly productive, but vary in form and composition based on its purpose, which influences the communities that inhabit them. LÄS MER
20. Treatment wetlands in a tropical climate
Sammanfattning : The decrease of water resources values as a result of eutrophication is a major problem in numerous lakes around the world, including the Great African Lakes. One of the most important tasks to limit this eutrophication, is to decrease the nutrient input from land-based activities. LÄS MER
