  1. 1. Local adaptive pigmentation in Asellus aquaticus -effects of UV-radiation and predation regime

    Författare :Jonas Johansson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Marinbiologi; limnology; aquatic ecology; marine biology; Hydrobiology; Ekologi; Ecology; damselfly; perch; UV-avoidance; isopod; anti-predator traits; evolution; selective predation; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Pigmentation in the freshwater isopod Asellus aquaticus differed between two habitats. Asellus were lighter pigmented in stands of submerged stonewort vegetation, than in nearby reed stands. Moreover, Asellus pigmentation became lighter with time in recently established stonewort stands. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Viruses on the wing : evolution and dynamics of influenza A virus in the Mallard reservoir

    Författare :Michelle Wille; Jonas Waldenström; Timm Harder; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Co-infections; Ecology; Epidemiology; Evolution; Host-Parasite Interactions; Immunity; Influenza A Virus; Mallard; Phylogeny; Virology; Waterfowl; Wild Birds; Wildlife Disease; Zoonotisk ekologi; Zoonotic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the evolution of avian influenza A viruses (IAV), as well as host-pathogen interactions between these viruses and their main reservoir host, the Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos). IAV is a genetically diverse, multi-host virus and wild birds, particularly dabbling ducks, are the natural reservoir. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Genomic and morphological diversity of marine planktonic diatom-diazotroph associations : a continuum of integration and diversification through geological time

    Författare :Andrea Caputo; Rachel Ann Foster; Monika Quinones Winder; Ramon Massana; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phytoplankton; diatoms; cyanobacteria; diazotrophs; symbiosis; evolution; phylogenetics; confocal microscopy; qPCR; CARD-FISH; tropics; sub-tropics; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Symbioses between eukaryotes and nitrogen (N2)-fixing cyanobacteria (or diazotrophs) are quite common in the plankton community. A few genera of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) such as Rhizosolenia, Hemiaulus and Chaetoceros are well known to form symbioses with the heterocystous diazotrophic cyanobacteria Richelia intracellularis and Calothrix rhizosoleniae. 4. 4. Spatial and temporal ecology of oak-associated fungal communities

    Författare :Maria Faticov; Ayco Tack; Peter Hambäck; Paula Baptista; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; abiotic and biotic forces; climate warming; community ecology; foliar fungal community; host genotype; plant microbiome; powdery mildew; seasonal dynamics; warming-by-genotype interaction; Quercus robur; soil fungal community; spatial patterns; ekologi och evolution; Ecology and Evolution;

    Sammanfattning : Plants host a large diversity of microorganisms, which includes fungi, bacteria and archaea. Among these, fungi are highly diverse, and known to play a vital role in plant health and in regulation of the essential ecosystem functions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Ecology and evolution in a host-parasitoid system : Host search, immune responses and parasitoid virulence

    Författare :Lisa Fors; Peter Hambäck; Wertheim Bregje; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Host-parasitoid interactions; Plant-herbivore interactions; Host search; Volatiles; Pheromones; Geographic variation; Cellular defence; Melanisation; Encapsulation; Asecodes; Galerucella; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In host-parasitoid systems, there is a continuous coevolutionary arms race where each species imposes a strong selection pressure on the other. The host needs to develop defence strategies in order to escape parasitism and the parasitoid must evolve counter-defence strategies in order to overcome the host’s immune defence and successfully reproduce.
