  1. 6. Neuropeptides and neurotransmitters in keratocytes : importance in corneal wound healing processes

    Författare :Marta Sloniecka; Patrik Danielson; May Griffith; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; substance P; acetylcholine; migration; proliferation; apoptosis; corneal stroma;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The cornea is the outermost transparent layer of the eye and it is responsible for the majorityof the eye’s total focusing power. Keratocytes are the resident cells of the corneal stroma and their function isto produce extracellular matrix components and to take part in corneal healing after injury, which may occurdue to trauma, infection or surgery. Sammanfattning : Tendon injuries and tendinopathy are common disorders, but the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. The overall aim of this thesis was to better understand the mechanisms underlying tendon healing, pain, and inflammation. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Social Phobia. From Epidemiology to Brain Function

    Författare :Tomas Furmark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; Anxiety; brain; epidemiology; fear; neuroimaging; neurotransmitters; positron emission tomography; prevalence; serotonin; social phobia; subtypes; treatment; Psykologi; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Social phobia is a disabling anxiety disorder characterized by an excessive fear of negative evaluation in social situations. The present thesis explored the epidemiology and neurobiology of the disorder. By means of a mailed questionnaire, the point prevalence of social phobia in the Swedish general population was estimated at 15.6%. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Characterization of Retinal Progenitor Cells : Focus on Proliferation and the GABAA Receptor System

    Författare :Henrik Ring; Finn Hallböök; Per Söderberg; Andras Simon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Regeneration; Proliferation; Neurotransmitters; Müller cells; Differentiation; Retinal repair; Neurogenesis; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : One strategy to repair an injured or degenerated retina is to stimulate the replacement of damaged or dead neurons with cells derived from endogenous stem- or progenitor cells. A successful strategy requires knowledge about how the proliferation and differentiation of the endogenous cells are regulated. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Organic electronics for precise delivery of neurotransmitters

    Författare :Amanda Jonsson; Magnus Berggren; Daniel Simon; Marco Rolandi; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Organic electronic materials, that is, carbon-based compounds that conduct electricity, have emerged as candidates for improving the interface between conventional electronics and biological systems. The softness of these materials matches the elasticity of biological tissue better than conventional electronic conductors, allowing better contact to tissue, and the mixed ionic-electronic conductivity can improve the signal transduction between electronic devices and electrically excitable cells.
