  1. 6. Epidemiology and genetics in ulcerative colitis with special reference to twins and smoking

    Författare :Curt Tysk; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ulcerative colitis; ulcerative proctitis; epidemiology; incidence; prevalence; genetics; twins; colonic glycoproteins; smoking; primary sclerosing cholangitis; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : In an epidemiologic study of ulcerative proctocolitis during the period 1963-1987, annual incidence rates increased fourfold and was during the last 10 years 13.1/105 inhabitants. The prevalence on December 31, 1987 was 234/105 inhabitants. Both rates are high but close to recent reports. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Crohn's disease : Studies on epidemiology, twins, aetiological factors and clinical course with special reference to smoking

    Författare :Eva Lindberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Crohn s disease; epidemiology; incidence; prevalence; smoking; genetics; twins; dietary antigens; yeast; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; mannan; gliadin; betalactoglobulin; ovalbuntin; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : In an epidemiological study of the incidence of Crohn's disease in Orebro county during the 25-year period 1963-1987, the mean annual incidence was 6.1/105 inhabitants. During the first five year period the mean incidence was 4.3 but during the following four quinquennia the incidence was stable at around 6. LÄS MER

  3. 8. In vitro contracture testing for the diagnosis of malignant hyperthermia susceptibility

    Författare :Gunilla Islander; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology; specificity; IVCT; Malignant hyperthermia susceptibility; skeletal muscle; inheritance pattern; sensitivity; reproducibility; intensivvård;

    Sammanfattning : Malignant hyperthermia (MH) susceptibility is a rare inherited muscular disorder, which may cause a lethal increase in metabolism during anaesthesia with certain commonly used anaesthetic. Susceptible individuals are without any signs or symptoms. It is important to identify individuals at risk, since the MH reaction is preventable. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Genetic studies of hypospadias

    Författare :Louise Frisén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Hypospadias; genetic; complex trait; low birth weight; twin study; segregation analysis; genome-wide linkage analysis; mutation analysis; HOXA13 gene;

    Sammanfattning : Hypospadias is defined as an abnormal opening of the urethra on the underside of the penis. It is a frequently found malformation with an incidence of 3 per 1000 males. The aim of this thesis was to identify genetic and environmental factors in the pathogenesis of hypospadias. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Population-based studies of body mass index, overweight and systolic blood pressure among Swedish young men

    Författare :Malin Kark; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Blood pressure; Epidemiology; Fetal growth; Fetal origins hypothesis; International adoptees; Overweight; Population-based study; Twins; Young men.;

    Sammanfattning : Overweight and obesity has increased in Sweden and worldwide in recent decades. Lifestyle and environmental changes, genetic susceptibility and interactions between these factors are believed to be important. A theoretical framework often referred to, as the fetal origins hypothesis has been extensively debated over the last 15 years. LÄS MER
