  1. 11. Emissions of organic compounds from technosphere articles : Measurements and modeling of mass transfer from consumer goods and building materials to air and water

    Författare :Tomas Holmgren; Peter Haglund; Martin Scheringer; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Emission; model; DINP; DINCH; TiBP; TPP; Vinyl flooring; flat screen displays; LCD screen; concrete; Abraham solvation parameters; Piringer equation; linear free energy relation;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of a generic model for predicting the emissions of organic compounds from materials used in the manufacture of various goods and products. Many products contain organic substances that are not bound to the matrix formed by their constituent materials and are thus able to dissociate from the material and become transferred into the surrounding environment. 2. 12. Volumetric Analysis in Mechanical Behaviour and Physical Ageing of Polymers

    Författare :Mats Delin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ageing rate; Gr neisen parameter; bulk modulus; KAHR model; dilatometry; Poisson s ratio; timescale; physical ageing; dynamic mechanical properties; stress relaxation; volume changes; creep; Doolittle s equation;

    Sammanfattning : Volumetric changes associated with the deformation of ideal elastic solids depends on elastic constants of the solid and applied strain. Their magnitude is easily determined from the corresponding Poisson's ratios. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Selected Topics in Mathematical Modelling: Machine Learning and Tugs-of-War

    Författare :Carmina Fjellström; Kaj Nyström; Andrea Pascucci; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Machine learning; Neural networks; LSTM; Financial forecasting; Time series analysis; Stochastic gradient descent; Diffusion map; Dimension reduction; Tug-of-war games; Fractional heat operator; Mean value property; Infinity fractional heat operators; Dynamic programming principle; p-Laplacian; Infinity Laplacian; Kolmogorov equation; Stochastic games; Viscosity solutions; Tillämpad matematik och statistik; Applied Mathematics and Statistics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns selected topics in mathematical modelling, namely in machine learning and stochastic games called tugs-of-war. It consists of four scientific articles. The first and second are about machine learning topics, while the third and fourth articles are about tug-of-war games. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Radiation and matter: how do they play with each other?

    Författare :Davide Mancusi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heavy ions; models; transport codes; Boltzmann equation; Monte Carlo; radioprotection in space; radiotherapy; nuclear reactions;

    Sammanfattning : The propagation of radiation is affected by the presence of matter; at the same time, the physicochemical properties of matter are modified by the passage of radiation. The interplay of radiation and matter is of crucial importance in many modern applications: accelerated heavy ions, in particular, can be used in radiotherapeutical treatments of some cancers; moreover, they are present in the space radiation environment and represent a serious threat to the health of spaceship crews and to the functionality of electronic equipment on board. 5. 15. Unravelling Consistent Spin-2 Interactions

    Författare :Mikael von Strauss; Sayed Fawad Hassan; Mikhail Volkov; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Modified Gravity; Massive Spin-2; Spin-2 Interactions; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Recently, a unique formulation of a classically consistent theory of massive spin-2 fields has emerged. In this thesis I address a few of the primary questions that arise once such a theory is available. LÄS MER
