  1. 6. Cellular effects after exposure to mixed beams of ionizing radiation

    Författare :Elina Staaf; Andrzej Wojcik; Siamak Haghdoost; Eva Forssell-Aronsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ionizing radiation; high LET; low LET; mixed beams; combined exposure; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Mixed beams of ionizing radiation in our environment originate from space, the bedrock and our own houses. Radiotherapy patients treated with boron neutron capture therapy or with high energy photons are also exposed to mixed beams of gamma radiation and neutrons. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Factors modifying cellular response to ionizing radiation

    Författare :Lei Cheng; Andrzej Wojcik; Siamak Haghdoost; Lovisa Lundholm; Penelope A. Jeggo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Radiation biology; DNA damage; gene expression; alpha particles; X-rays; mixed beams; gamma rays; hypothermia; dose rate.; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Many physical factors influence the biological effect of exposure to ionizing radiation, including radiation quality, dose rate and temperature. This thesis focuses on how these factors influence the outcome of exposure and the mechanisms behind the cellular response. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Role of MTH1 and MYH proteins in genotoxic effects of radiation

    Författare :Sara Shakeri Manesh; Siamak Haghdoost; William F. Morgan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MTH1; MYH; gamma radiation; UV radiation; oxidative stress; low dose rate ionizing radiation; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Humans are constantly exposed to different types of radiations. It has been suggested that low dose and low dose rate of γ-radiation as well as ultra violet A (UVA) induce oxidative stress in cells that may promote mutations. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Neonatal Exposure to Low-Dose Ionizing Radiation in Mice : Developmental Neurotoxic Effects of Single and Fractionated Doses and Interaction with Nicotine

    Författare :Sonja Buratovic; Per Eriksson; Jack Valentin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to investigate the developmental neurotoxic effects of low-dose exposure to ionizing radiation, alone or together with nicotine, during a defined critical period of neonatal brain development in mice. Investigation of neurotoxic effects following fractionated or acute low-dose radiation, resembling the clinical situation during repeated CT scans or radiation delivered to non-target tissue during radiotherapy, and possible interaction effects with other agents, is of great importance for risk and safety evaluation. 5. 10. Radiobiological studies with low energy ionizing radiation - dosimetric aspects

    Författare :Gustav Grafström; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; low energy; Radiobiology; dosimetry; cell model; Radiofarmaceutisk teknik; Radiopharmaceutical technology; radiobiologi; Nukleärmedicin; radiobiology; Nuclear medicine; animal model;

    Sammanfattning : Background: During the last 20 years both in vitro and in vivo models have been developed for studies of the cell killing characteristics of low energy electrons, e.g. Auger electrons. This thesis deals with radiobiological effects of radiation from indium isotopes in V79 cells in vitro (Paper I-III) and the rat testis in vivo (Paper IVV). LÄS MER
