6. Cellular effects after exposure to mixed beams of ionizing radiation
Sammanfattning : Mixed beams of ionizing radiation in our environment originate from space, the bedrock and our own houses. Radiotherapy patients treated with boron neutron capture therapy or with high energy photons are also exposed to mixed beams of gamma radiation and neutrons. LÄS MER
7. Factors modifying cellular response to ionizing radiation
Sammanfattning : Many physical factors influence the biological effect of exposure to ionizing radiation, including radiation quality, dose rate and temperature. This thesis focuses on how these factors influence the outcome of exposure and the mechanisms behind the cellular response. LÄS MER
8. Role of MTH1 and MYH proteins in genotoxic effects of radiation
Sammanfattning : Humans are constantly exposed to different types of radiations. It has been suggested that low dose and low dose rate of γ-radiation as well as ultra violet A (UVA) induce oxidative stress in cells that may promote mutations. LÄS MER
9. Neonatal Exposure to Low-Dose Ionizing Radiation in Mice : Developmental Neurotoxic Effects of Single and Fractionated Doses and Interaction with Nicotine
Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to investigate the developmental neurotoxic effects of low-dose exposure to ionizing radiation, alone or together with nicotine, during a defined critical period of neonatal brain development in mice. Investigation of neurotoxic effects following fractionated or acute low-dose radiation, resembling the clinical situation during repeated CT scans or radiation delivered to non-target tissue during radiotherapy, and possible interaction effects with other agents, is of great importance for risk and safety evaluation. 10. Radiobiological studies with low energy ionizing radiation - dosimetric aspects
Sammanfattning : Background: During the last 20 years both in vitro and in vivo models have been developed for studies of the cell killing characteristics of low energy electrons, e.g. Auger electrons. This thesis deals with radiobiological effects of radiation from indium isotopes in V79 cells in vitro (Paper I-III) and the rat testis in vivo (Paper IVV). LÄS MER
