1. Transport systems meeting long-term climate targets : A backcasting approach
Sammanfattning : Future transport systems consistent with long-term climate targets are examined in this thesis, using a systems perspective covering the entire transport system. Aviation is given particular attention, as expansion of this mode is difficult to reconcile with climate targets. LÄS MER
2. Treeline dynamics in short and long term perspectives : observational and historical evidence from the southern Swedish Scandes
Sammanfattning : Against the background of past, recent and future climate change, the present thesis addresses elevational shifts of alpine treelines in the Swedish Scandes. By definition, treeline refers to the elevation (m a.s.l. LÄS MER
3. Impact of climate warming on Arctic plant diversity: phylogenetic diversity unravels opposing shrub responses in a warming tundra
Sammanfattning : The Arctic biome is at significant risk, with recent observations suggesting that climate change is warming the Arctic nearly four times faster than the global average. Last decade, evidence from experimental warming studies and observations of ambient warming over time shows how increasing air temperature in the Arctic has led to changes to arctic vegetation, and encroachment of trees and shrubs into the tundra. 4. Long-term Environmental Problems, Economic Measures and Physical Indicators
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of five papers and an introduction dealing with various aspects of the use of environmental resources. In both Paper I, The marginal cost of CO2 emissions, and Paper II, Discounting and distributional considerations in the context of global warming, we analyse the economics of the greenhouse effect. 5. Microbial Communities in Boreal Peatlands : Responses to Climate Change and Atmospheric Nitrogen and Sulfur Depositions
