  1. 1. Boreal Forest Wildfire in a Changing Climate

    Författare :Johan Eckdahl; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; boreal forest wildfire; carbon emissions; nutrient cycling; nitrogen; microbial community; plant community; climate chnge; secondary succession; Sweden; Fennoscandia; biodiversity; boreal skogsbrand; koldioxiduttsläpp; näringscykling; kväve; mirkobiellt samhälle; växtsamhälle; klimatförändring; sekundär succession; sverige; Fennoskandien; biologisk mångfald;

    Sammanfattning : The boreal region contains 40% of the earth’s carbon (C) that is stored in vegetation and soils with its forests accounting for almost 30% of the terrestrial C sink. Boreal forests are experiencing some of the most rapid rates of climatic warming and increases in fire activity, threatening to release large amounts of their dense C reserves to the atmosphere. 2. 2. Microbial Communities in Boreal Peatlands : Responses to Climate Change and Atmospheric Nitrogen and Sulfur Depositions

    Författare :Magalí Martí Genero; Bo Svensson; Åsa Danielsson; Torben Christensen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbial communities; methanogens; plant communities; peatland; temperature; nitrogen; long-term; field experiment; high-throughput sequencing; Microbiella samhällen; metanogener; växtsamhällen; myrar; torv; temperatur; kväve; långtid; fältexperiment; high-throughput-sekvensering;

    Sammanfattning : Myrmarker har en stor roll i regleringen av den globala kolbalansen och koncentrationerna av koldioxid och metan i atmosfären, vilket gör dem till speciellt viktiga ekosystem ur ett klimatförandringsperspektiv. Förändringar av myrmarker genom naturlig utveckling eller antropogen påverkan kan därför få långtgående störningar av myrars klimatreglerande funktion. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Epiphytic lichen responses to nitrogen deposition

    Författare :Otilia Johansson; Kristin Palmqvist; Johan Olofsson; Annika Nordin; Lars E Ericson; Peter Crittenden; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lichens; air pollution; nitrogen deposition; phosphorus; growth; chlorophyll a; boreal forest; field experiment; irrigation; carbon based secondary compounds; Lavar; luftföroreningar; alg; svamp; kväve; fosfor; skog; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestrisk ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : Nitrogen (N) deposition has increased globally over the last 150 years and further increase is predicted for the future. Nitrogen is an important nutrient for lichens, involved in many processes in both photobiont and mycobiont.  However, N can be a stressor, causing many lichens and lichen communities to disappear with increased deposition. 4. 4. Extraction of logging residues for bioenergy : effects of operational methods on fuel quality and biomass losses in the forest

    Författare :Bengt Nilsson; Johan Bergh; Gudmund Vollbrecht; Rolf Björheden; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Forest fuel; Storage; Fraction composition; Needles; Defoliation; Moisture content; Nutrients; Nitrogen; Norway spruce; Picea abies; Skogsbränsle; Lagring; Fraktionsfördelning; Barr; Avbarrning; Fukthalt; Näringsämnen; Kväve; Gran; Picea abies; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Wood products play a key role in the transformation to a more sustainable society based on renewable bio-based resources, together with the positive effects on climate mitigation by replacing fossil fuels. However, to increase the use of forest fuel in practice it is important to understand the effects of handling and storage on its quality and removal of nutrients from the forest. LÄS MER
