26. Climate Change Policy of Bio-Energy: A Computable General Equilibrium Analysis
Sammanfattning : This paper explores the intersectoral and land-use dynamics behind bio-energy??s development as a climate change policy. Bio-energy from agriculture and forestry can potentially mitigate the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) from energy use and land-use changes (LUC) by its substitution to fossil fuels and its diversion of land-use to biomass plantation. 27. Sustainable agriculture : From global challenges to local land management
Sammanfattning : Despite the success of agriculture management practices in increasing the availability of food needed to meet the requirements of the expanding global population, there are increasing demands placed on the resources on which the sector depends. Opportunities for the development of agricultural systems are constrained by increasing competition, from other sectors, for shared resources. LÄS MER
28. Frame Analysis in Environmental Conflicts : The case of ethanol production in Brazil
Sammanfattning : Governments and policy-makers are currently dealing with some key issues as energy security in countries dependent on oil imports; global economic development, including increased food production; and controlling global climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. The perception that biofuel could solve these challenges simultaneously has led to the implementation of policy and regulatory mechanisms on the mandatory use of biofuels, resulting in a sharp increase in biofuel production and consumption. 29. An agent-based approach to supply side modeling of agricultural and power systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the modeling of economic systems in the context of agricultural and power systems, and some aspects of the difference between the standard economics equilibrium approach and the agent-based approach. We model the supply side, where agents make decisions on what to produce or in what to invest. LÄS MER
30. Effect of climate and land use on niche utilization and distribution of nettle-feeding butterflies
Sammanfattning : Anthropogenic changes in climate and land use are causing a dramatic erosion of biodiversity. To understand this erosion, and predict future transformations of biodiversity, we need to understand better species’ response to these changes at different spatial and temporal scales. LÄS MER
