1. Climate Change Policy of Bio-Energy: A Computable General Equilibrium Analysis
Sammanfattning : This paper explores the intersectoral and land-use dynamics behind bio-energy??s development as a climate change policy. Bio-energy from agriculture and forestry can potentially mitigate the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) from energy use and land-use changes (LUC) by its substitution to fossil fuels and its diversion of land-use to biomass plantation. 2. Aspects of Energy Resource Management
Sammanfattning : Energy resource management requires input from many disciplines. The three first papers in this thesis deals with the use of physical terms in the interdisciplinary process where inputs from different disciplines are handled together. LÄS MER
3. Sustainable production of bio-energy products in the sawmill industry
Sammanfattning : One of the great challenges facing society is to convert theglobal energy system to a sustainable process. Currently, 80%of the world´s energy is supplied through the combustionof fossil fuels. Not only are the fossil resources limited, theutilisation also increases the level of greenhouse gases in theatmosphere. LÄS MER
4. Valorisation of fish waste biomass through recovery of nutritional lipids and biogas
Sammanfattning : Commercial fish catch in Eastern Africa is dominated by Nile Perch. Of the fish that is processed for human consumption, 30-40% is wasted. Currently, these wastes are not fully utilized; they are sold off at low price, converted to low valued products or left to decompose leading to environmental pollution and wastage of bioresource. 5. Sludge from pulp and paper mills for biogas production : Strategies to improve energy performance in wastewater treatment and sludge management
Sammanfattning : The production of pulp and paper is associated with the generation of large quantities of wastewater that has to be purified to avoid severe pollution of the environment. Wastewater purification in pulp and paper mills combines sedimentation, biological treatment, chemical precipitation, flotation and anaerobic treatment, and the specific combination of techniques is determined by the local conditions.
