  1. 31. Long-lasting ecological legacies of reindeer on tundra vegetation

    Författare :Dagmar D. Egelkraut; Johan Olofsson; Bruce Forbes; Hans Tømmervik; René van der Wal; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alternative stable state; Herbivory; Historical contingency; Nutrient cycling; Plant-herbivore interactions; Plant-soil feedbacks; Rangifer tarandus; Reindeer herding; Traditional land use; Tundra vegetation;

    Sammanfattning : Reindeer can have strong effects on the plant species composition and functioning of tundra ecosystems, and often promote a transition towards a graminoid-dominated vegetation type. As a result, they influence many ecological processes, such as nutrient dynamics, soil biotic composition and functioning, and carbon storage. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Hälsingegården i omvandling : en studie av världsarvsprocessen i Hälsingland

    Författare :Martin Paju; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Social and Economic Geography; kulturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Under våren 2012 väntade ett stort antal människor runt om i landet på ett besked som bekräftade att ett antal jordbruksfastigheter och kulturmiljöer, i Gävleborgs län skulle kunde klassas som världsunika och föras upp på listan över världsarv. En lista vars innehåll styrs av konventionen om skydd av världens kultur- och naturarv, världsarvskonventionen, som är ett av FN-organet Unescos normativa instrument på natur- och kulturområdet. 3. 33. Anammox-based systems for nitrogen removal from mainstream municipal wastewater

    Författare :Andriy Malovanyy; Elzbieta Plaza; Adriano Joss; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wastewater; Nitrogen removal; Ion exchange; Deammonification; Anammox; Mainstream; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Nitrogen removal from municipal wastewater with the application of deammonification process offers an operational cost reduction, especially if it is combined with a maximal use of organic content of wastewater for biogas production. In this thesis, two approaches for integration of the deammonification process into the municipal wastewater treatment scheme were studied. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Sharing Water in Africa : Comparative Analysis of the Limpopo and Orange-Senqu River Basins in SADC and the Juba and Shabelle River Basins in the Horn of Africa

    Författare :Abdullahi Elmi Mohamed; Jan-Erik Gustafsson; Ashok Swain; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Shared water; international river basins; river cooperation; water resources; conflicts; SADC and Horn of African regions; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : As water resources management becomes increasingly critical and many countries in the arid and semi-arid regions are increasingly forced to consider the possibilities of utilizing the water that is available in international rivers. Thus, the concerns relating to the use of international waters in shared rivers are becoming more important. LÄS MER

  5. 35. Application of aerobic granular sludge for municipal wastewater treatment - Process performance and microbial community dynamics under fluctuating conditions

    Författare :Jennifer Ekholm; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; energy usage; aerobic granular sludge; sequencing batch reactors; granulation; municipal wastewater treatment; nutrient removal; start-up; microbial community dynamics; full-scale operation; low temperature; activated sludge;

    Sammanfattning : Pressures of growing cities, competition for use of urban areas and higher influent loads, are pushing for innovative technologies for wastewater treatment with low demands for land footprint and costs. Furthermore, wastewater treatment is needed to move towards a circular economy by harvest of valuable resources such as nutrients and energy. LÄS MER
