11. Surface chemistry of Al and Si (hydr)oxides, with emphasis on nano-sized gibbsite (α-Al(OH)3)
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains an introduction to the surface chemistry of minerals in aqueous environment, and a summary of five manuscripts concerning adsorption reactions at the surfaces of nano-sized gibbsite (α-Al(OH)3), amorphous silica and kaolinite. Nano-sized gibbsite was synthesized and thoroughly characterized using X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. 12. Nanostructured Ceramics - Synthesis and Understanding
Sammanfattning : During the last years, nanostructured ceramics have been favored for use in the industry due to their beneficial properties. For example, calcium phosphate ceramics with their biocompatible and bioactive characteristics are beneficial in biomedicine. LÄS MER
13. Towards Abatement of Selected Emissions from Metals Manufacturing
Sammanfattning : Although the metallurgical industry has made great strides in the reduction of unwanted emissions to the atmosphere as a result of production processes, significant challenges still exist. From a global perspective, even large reductions in emissions per produced ton become immaterial when considering that the total world production of metals continues to increase. LÄS MER
14. Coordination Chemistry of Monocarboxylate and Aminocarboxylate Complexes at the Water/Goethite Interface
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a summary of five papers with focus on adsorption processes of various monocarboxylates and aminocarboxylates at the water/goethite interface. Interaction of organic acids at the water/mineral interfaces are of importance in biogeochemical processes, since such processes have potential to alter mobility and bioavailability of the acids and metal ions. 15. Charge Development at Iron Oxyhydroxide Surfaces : The Interplay between Surface Structure, Particle Morphology and Counterion Identity
Sammanfattning : Iron (oxyhydr)oxide (FeOOH) minerals play important roles in various natural, technological and societal settings. The widespread abundance of these minerals has prompted numerous studies on their surface reactivity in aqueous media. Surface charge development, one that namely takes place through the adsorption of potential determining ions (p.d. LÄS MER
