  1. 1. Mathematical modelling of clinical applications in fluid therapy

    Författare :Peter M Rodhe; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: This thesis presents a new application of fluid kinetic analysis using mathematical tools to evaluate fluid therapy problems. Several models were developed to mathematically handle fluid distribution concerning bleeding and anaesthesia, arterio-venous differences in plasma dilution, peripheral fluid accumulation and differences in fluid distribution among young and elderly patients. 2. 2. Aspects of hepatoduodenal trauma and fluid therapy in hemorrhagic shock

    Författare :Peep Talving; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Liver injury; epidemiology; population-based study; duodenum injury; gunshot injury; surgery; trauma; emergency care; bleeding; hypotension; hemorrhagic shock; fluid resuscitation; prehospital fluid therapy; morbidity; mortality;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic injury is the leading cause of death among young adults and children, accounting for 5 million deaths worldwide on an annual basis. In Sweden alone, 2500 individuals succumb to traumatic injuries yearly. Beyond the burden of death, injuries contribute to a large proportion of disability. LÄS MER

  3. 3. HIV Persistence and Viral Reservoirs

    Författare :Arvid Edén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HIV-1; antiretroviral therapy; latency; cerebrospinal fluid; central nervous system; efavirenz; lopinavir; atazanavir; neopterin; viral decay;

    Sammanfattning : Although antiretroviral therapy (ART) can effectively inhibit replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1), the virus is able to persist in cellular and anatomical viral reservoirs. Latently infected resting memory CD4+ T-cells are an important cellular reservoir, and the central nervous system (CNS) an important anatomical reservoir for HIV-1 infection. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Assessment and management of bariatric surgery patients

    Författare :Tomi Pösö; Doris Kesek; Ola Winsö; Roman Aroch; Mats Enlund; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bariatric surgery; morbid obesity; anesthesia; echocardiography; fluid therapy; preoperative; perioperative; venous return; rehydration; volatile rapid sequence induction; spontaneous breathing; sevoflurane.; anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: In morbidly obese individuals (MO) cardiorespiratory comorbidities and body habitus challenge the perioperative management of anesthesia. To implement safe and reproducible routines for anesthesia and fluid therapy is the cornerstone in order to minimize anesthesia-related complications and to meet individual variability in rehydration needs. 5. 5. The use of volume kinetics as a method to optimise fluid therapy

    Författare :Christer Svensén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: This thesis presents a new application of pharmacokinetic analysis, usually applied to drugs, to the disposition of intravenous fluid. One-volume and two-volume models were developed and non-linear regression was used to characterise the blood marker dilution versus time, relative to the administered dose of intravenous fluid.
