  1. 1. Jejunoileal bypass for morbid obesity studies of the long-term effects

    Detta är en avhandling från Umeå : Umeå Universitet

    Författare :Anders Sylvan; Umeå universitet.; [1995]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Jejunoileal bypass; Obesity; Surgery; Liver biopsy; Fibrinolytic system; Colonoscopy; Flow cytometry; Cancer risk;

    Sammanfattning : This study was aimed at investigating adverse and beneficial long-term effects of jejunoileal bypass (JIB) sugery in obese patients. The JIB was the first widly used surgical procedure for treatment of morbid obesity. The weight loss was remarkable, but the procedure was declared not appropiate for obesity surgery in the late 1970's. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Gastric Bypass in Morbid Obesity Postoperative Changes in Metabolic, Inflammatory and Gut Regulatory Peptides

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Camilla Holdstock; Uppsala universitet.; [2008]
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; gastric bypass; morbid obesity; ghrelin; C-reactive protein; pancreatic polypeptide; peptide YY; glucagon-like peptide-1; VETERINARY MEDICINE Medicine; VETERINÄRMEDICIN Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the effect of surgical weight loss on gut and adipose tissue peptides involved in appetite regulation and energy homeostasis in morbidly obese humans. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) is the gold standard operation used for effective long-term weight loss and improved health. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Aspects of surgical treatment of morbid obesity : Clinical studies

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Agneta Westling; Uppsala universitet.; [2001]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; obesity surgey; silicone adjustable gastric banding; band erosion; revision to RYGBP; laparoscopic RYGBP; deep venous thrombosis; depp venous insufficiency; Kirurgi; MEDICINE Surgery; MEDICIN Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Common methods used for surgical treatment of morbid obesity are silicone adjustable gastric banding (SAGB), vertical banded gastroplasty (VBG) and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP). The role of laparoscopy in complex bariatric procedures such as RYGBP is unclear. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Health-related Quality of Life in Obesity

    Detta är en avhandling från Göteborg : University of Gothenburg

    Författare :Jan Karlsson; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2003]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; obesity; weight loss; quality of life; mood; anxiet; y depression; psychosocial functioning; eating behavior; restraint eating; emotional eating; psychometric methods; factor structure; responsiveness; prediction; gastric surgery; controlled clinical trial; outcome measure;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: to document the impact of obesity on health-related quality of life (HRQL), to evaluate the effects of weight reduction treatment on HRQL, and to validate and improve methods for the assessment of HRQL in obesity. Methods: a) SOS comprises a cross-sectional study, an ongoing prospective intervention trial, and a longitudinal population study (n=1135). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Monitoring alveolar recruitment in the critically ill - Patient studies using electric impedance tomography and volume-dependent compliance

    Detta är en avhandling från Göteborg : University of Gothenburg

    Författare :Karin Lowhagen; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2010]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ALI; ARDS; compliance; end-expiratory lung volume; EELV; EIT; electric impedance tomography; lung recruitment; morbid obesity; PEEP; recruitment manoeuvre; regional ventilation; volume-dependent compliance;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are associated with a high mortality rate and poor long term outcome in terms of quality of life, for those who survive. Similarly, patients with morbid obesity are at risk for respiratory complications when subjected to anaesthesia and surgery. LÄS MER
