  1. 1. Adjuvant treatments to prevent local reurrence after breast-conserving surgery for early breast cancer : radiation, endocrine- or brachytherapy

    Författare :Åsa Wickberg; Göran Liljegren; Johan Ahlgren; Roger Olofsson Bagge; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast-conserving surgery; radiotherapy; endocrine therapy; intraoperative brachytherapy;

    Sammanfattning : Radiotherapy after breast-conserving surgery due to breast cancer is an established treatment, known to reduce the incidence of recurrence and even death from the disease. However some women are over-treated with sometimes serious adverse effects. De-escalating the treatment and find alternative adjuvant methods are becoming an important issue. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Absorbed Dose Determination and Characteristics of Degraded Electron Beams: Application to Intraoperative Radiation Therapy

    Författare :Peter Björk; Internmedicin - epidemiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; absorbed dose distribution; output factor; stopping-power ratio; beam characteristics; Monte Carlo calculation; electron beam dosimetry; applicator system; radiation therapy; linear accelerator; intraoperative radiotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this work was to quantify limitations of and uncertainties in commonly used dosimetric techniques for relative absorbed dose determination in degraded electron beams, such as those encountered in intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) and small-electron-field radiotherapy. Three different detector types were investigated with regard to measurements of output factors and relative absorbed dose distributions: (1) a parallel-plate ionization chamber, (2) a p-type silicon diode detector and (3) a diamond detector. 3. 3. Rectal cancer surgery : Defunctioning stoma, anastomotic leakage and postoperative monitoring

    Författare :Peter Matthiessen; Olof Hallböök; Rune Sjödahl; Lars Påhlman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anterior resection of the rectum; total mesorectal excision; TME; anastomotic leakage; defunctioning stoma; risk factors; intraoperative adverse events; population based study; postoperative monitoring; CT-scan microdialysis; cytokines; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : The understanding of the mesorectal spread in rectal cancer has lead to wide acceptance of total mesorectal excision (TME) as the surgical technique of choice for carcinoma in the lower and mid rectum. While oncological results and survival have improved with TME-surgery, morbidity and mortality remain important issues. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Strategies for optimisation of 177Lu-octreotate therapy – exploring local administration and combination therapy regimens

    Författare :Viktor Sandblom; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy; PRRT; 177Lu-octreotate; Neuroendocrine tumours; Optimisation; Local administration; Combination therapy;

    Sammanfattning : Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) are a group of heterogeneous tumour types that originate in hormone-producing organs. Patients with NETs are often diagnosed after the primary tumour has metastasised. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Sentinel node biopsy in breast cancer : aspects on validation, diagnostics and lymphatic drainage pattern

    Författare :Fuat Celebioglu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Axillary lymph node status is the most important pathological determinant of prognosis in early breast cancer. Determination of axillary status is crucial in clinical decision-making. Total axillary lymphadenectomy is generally accepted as a reliable staging procedure. LÄS MER
