21. Broad-Scale Patterns in CDOM and Total Organic Matter Concentrations of Inland Waters – Insights from Remote Sensing and GIS
Sammanfattning : The rise in CDOM (coloured dissloved organic matter) is likely to be relatively more pronounced in remote northern regions. However, there is a lack of monitoring to confirm this. LÄS MER
22. Riverine sources of bioreactive macroelements and their impact on bacterioplankton metabolism in a recipient boreal estuary
Sammanfattning : The loading of terrestrially derived macroelements, such as dissolved organic carbon (DOC), total nitrogen (N), and total phosphorus (P), to inland and estuarine waters is increasing in the northern hemisphere. Thesemacroelements often limit heterotrophic bacterioplankton metabolism (production and respiration), which in turn influence food web structures, exchange of greenhouse gases between the atmosphere and aquatic systems and oxygen consumption in estuarine ecosystems. 23. An exploration of freshwater microbial ecology : from streamlined genera to global networks
Sammanfattning : Microbes are the main drivers of biogeochemical cycles on Earth and even though freshwaters cover only a small area of terrestrial surfaces their contribution to global cycles is important. Global cycles are measured by exchanges between systems e.g. water to atmosphere or lithosphere and are mediated by microbial communities. LÄS MER
24. Adsorption of dissolved organic matter in aquatic ecosystems : Effects on composition and reactivity
Sammanfattning : Inland waters receive organic matter from terrestrial ecosystems and in situ production. In transit from land to the ocean, dissolved organic carbon (DOC) may be mineralised to inorganic forms (CO2 and CH4) by microbial degradation and photodegradation. LÄS MER
25. Assessing environmental and contaminant stressors in a benthic amphipod
Sammanfattning : Organisms in the aquatic environment encounter numerous stressors throughout their lifespan. Some of them are biotic such as food availability, predators and parasites. Others are abiotic and include shifting salinity and temperature change among others. LÄS MER
