26. Characterization of Genetic Abnormalities at Disease Progression of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
Sammanfattning : Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a myeloproliferative disorder associated with the translocation t(9;22)(q34;q11) and progresses from a relatively indolent chronic phase (CP) to an accelerated phase (AP) and finally to the more aggressive blast crisis (BC). The general aim of this thesis was to identify and characterize genetic abnormalities occurring at disease progression of CML using molecular cytogenetic, molecular genetic, and bioinformatic analyses. 27. Molecular Cytogenetics in Sporadic Breast Cancer
Sammanfattning : In recent time breast cancer has become the most common form of female cancer in the western world. It has been estimated that the lifetime risk of women falling ill from the disease is 10%. The number of patients diagnosed each year has been increasing steadily since the 1970s. LÄS MER
28. Assessing the ERG rearrangement for clinincal use in patients with prostrate cancer
Sammanfattning : In Sweden, close to 10 000 men are annually diagnosed with prostate cancer (PCa) and approximately 2400 men die of their disease each year. Today there is no reliable marker that can separate patients who will have an aggressive type of disease that requires treatment, from patients who will have a more indolent clinical course and can be left untreated. 29. Targeted disruption and subcellular distribution of phospholipase C 3
Sammanfattning : Phosphatidylinositol specific phospholipase C (PLC) isoforms are key enzymes in the signal transduction pathway that control many cellular processes including cell proliferation, hormone secretion and egg fertilization. The PLCβ3 gene, assigned to the multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) locus, has been implicated in endocrine tumorigenesis due to the low expression in several endocrine tumors. LÄS MER
30. Fluorescence in situ hybridization for the detection of genetic alterations in prostate and bladder malignancies : significance as a genetic marker to predict the patient prognosis
Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer and bladder cancer are common urological malignancies in man, while a lack of basic information underlying the oncogenesis and the tumor progression makes it difficult to form therapeutic strategies against these malignancies. Recent advances of molecular biology revealed that genetic alteration play a crucial role in the oncogenesis and progression of these tumors. LÄS MER
