  1. 1. Synthesis and Characterization of Sec-Packings Based on Trimethylolpropane Trimethacrylate

    Författare :Andrea Schmid; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bulk polymerization; N; hydrophilic gels; separation; methyl methacrylate; hydrophobic networks; acrylamide; porous networks; Suspension; N -methylene-bis-acrylamide; chemically crosslinked networks; dry gels; polysaccharide standards; distilled water; copolymerization; trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate;

    Sammanfattning : Suspension and bulk polymerization of trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TRIM) and copolymerization of TRIM with methyl methacrylate (MMA) resulted in porous, hydrophobic, and chemically crosslinked networks. Copolymerization of TRIM with acrylamide (AA) and with N,N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide (bis-AA) resulted in hydrophilic gels. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The thesis concerns polyelectrolyte gels in contact with oppositely charged proteins and surfactant micelles, and includes of four papers (I-IV). In paper I confocal Raman spectroscopy was introduced as a method to trace micelles and investigate the structure of gel-surfactant complexes, in phase separated gel spheres. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Association Phenomena Involving Hydrophobically Modified Polymers. Electrostatic and Hydrophobic Contributions

    Författare :Marina Tsianou; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; scaling; light scattering; rheology; aqueous solution behavior; phase behavior; cyclodextrin; surfactant; polyacrylate; cellulose ether; polyelectrolyte; hydrophobically modified polymer; Polymer; water soluble polymer; viscosity; association; segregation; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions in aqueous solutions of hydrophobically-modified water-soluble non-ionic or ionic polymers, their mixtures with a second polymer, nonionic or of opposite charge, and their mixtures with surfactants of opposite charge have been investigated. The relative strength of the electrostatic and hydrophobic contributions has been modulated by a variation of the polymer charge density and the solution pH, and by a variation in the degree and strength of the hydrophobic modifications, respectively. 4. 4. Alkylglycoside Surfactants - Self-Assembly, Solid-State Properties and Interactions with Hydrophobic Molecules

    Författare :Caroline Ericsson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; peptide stabilisation; solubilisation; micelle morphology; solid-state behaviour; alkylglycosides; nonionic surfactants;

    Sammanfattning : A thorough physical-chemical characterisation of alkylglycosides has been performed. The effects of temperature, salt, concentration and deuterium exchange on the self-aggregation of n-nonyl-b-D-glucoside (b-C9G1) and n-tetradecyl-b-D-maltoside (b-C14G2) have been studied in dilute solutions by static and dynamic light scattering, neutron scattering, rheology, capillary viscometry and tensiometry.
