  1. 16. Developing Computational Methods for Detailed Assessment of Cavitation on Marine Propellers

    Författare :Abolfazl Asnaghi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LES; OpenFOAM; Numerical simulation; Hydrodynamics; Cavitation;

    Sammanfattning : Cavitation often brings negative effects, such as performance degradation, noise, vibration, and material damage, to a marine propulsion systems, but for optimum performance, cavitation is almost inevitable. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the understanding of cavitation in order to maximize the performance without encountering severe problems. LÄS MER

    Författare :Alexey Bobrick; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stars Binaries: General; stars : neutron; stars : subdwarfs; stars : supergiants; hydrodynamics; nuclear reactions; nucleosynthesis; abundances; stars Binaries: General; stars : neutron; stars : subdwarfs; stars : supergiants; hydrodynamics; nuclear reactions; nucleosynthesis; abundances; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Bobrick;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on four papers dealing with various aspects of interactions in binary stars. Interactions between stars occur at nearly all stages of their evolution and can take many forms. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Land-Sea Interactions in the Coastal-Marine System of the Baltic Sea under Hydro-Climatic Variability

    Författare :Yuanying Chen; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Carmen Prieto; Marco Marani; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Baltic Sea; nutrient loads; hydro-climatic variability; hydrodynamics; solute transport; water quality.; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates a few important component processes for understanding and quantifying eutrophication in the Baltic Sea, that include characterization of nutrient loadings from land, water flow in the sea under changing climate conditions and transport of solutes originating from different locations along the coast. Furthermore, this study aims to improve our understanding on how processes from land (the nutrient loading conditions) and the sea (transport dynamics and water quality) couple to determine the fate of nutrients in the sea and the water quality in a selected localized coastal area, the Himmerfjärden Bay. 4. 19. On the Chemical Composition of Metal-Poor Stars : Impact of Stellar Granulation and Departures from Local Thermodynamic Equilibrium on the Formation of Spectral Lines

    Författare :Remo Collet; Bengt Gustafsson; Martin Asplund; Roger Cayrel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Astronomy; late-type stars; stellar abundances; stellar atmospheres; spectral line formation; convection; hydrodynamics; Galactic chemical evolution; Astronomi;

    Sammanfattning : The information about the chemical compositions of stars is encoded in their spectra. Accurate determinations of these compositions are crucial for our understanding of stellar nucleosynthesis and Galactic chemical evolution. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The Swedish natural philosopher Emanuel Swedenborg (1688–1772) thought in his early scientific career that the world was like a gigantic machine, following the laws of mechanics and geometry. The work presented here is a study of his mechanistic worldview and metaphorical way of thinking up to the year 1734, examining most of his fields of interest, from geometry and metaphysics to technology and mining engineering.
