16. Clinical and molecular studies of liposarcoma
Sammanfattning : Aims: (1) To analyse clinicopathological characteristics, treatment and outcome of liposarcoma, and to determine whether, and how, the Scandinavian Sarcoma Group (SSG) treatment guidelines were followed; (2) to analyse tumour volume and morphology response after radiotherapy in myxoid/round cell liposarcoma (MLS/RCLS); (3) to examine the role of the MLS-specific fusion gene FUS-DDIT3 in development of liposarcomas; and (4) to analyse expression patterns of cell cycle regulating proteins in MLS. Methods: (1) A total of 319 liposarcomas reported between 1986?1998 to the SSG Register were reviewed. LÄS MER
17. Chromosome dynamics and genomic instablity in neuroblastoma. Three genomic pillars: MYCN amplification, numerical and structural changes
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the main focus has been on the childhood cancer neuroblastoma, one of the most common and lethal childhood tumours. Neuroblastoma has througout the years continued to be a clinical and biological enigma. LÄS MER
18. On the mechanisms and consequences of cell to cell DNA transfer
Sammanfattning : Development of cancer is a multistep process where an accumulation of genetic alterations drives normal cells to malignancy. In most cancer cells genetic changes can be observed both at the level of point mutations and as gains and losses of chromosomes. LÄS MER
19. Molecular and Functional Dynamics of Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Fate During Ontogeny
Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) in the fetus and the adult possess distinct molecular signatures that regulate cell fate and change their susceptibility to initiation and progression of hematological malignancies, such as leukemia. It is well established that fetal and adult hematopoiesis are functionally distinct processes; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms that govern ontogenic differences in normal and malignant hematopoiesis have thus far been poorly explored on the proteomic level. 20. Pro-senescence therapy by targeting MYC and its network as a strategy to combat cancer
Sammanfattning : Cancer is defined as abnormal cell proliferation with the potential of metastasis and is an increasing threat to global health as the population becomes older. Cancer is triggered by gain-of-function mutations in oncogenes and loss of function mutations in tumor suppressor genes. LÄS MER
