6. Effects of herbivory on arctic and alpine vegetation
Sammanfattning : The distribution of plant species and functional traits in alpine and arctic environments are determined by abiotic conditions, but also by biotic interactions. In this thesis, I investigate interactions among plants and herbivory effects on plant community composition and plant functional traits in three different regions: Swedish Lapland, Beringia (USA/Russia) and Finnmark (Norway). 7. A View on the Invisible : A Study of Relationships between Different Aspects of Health in Populations
Sammanfattning : This thesis studies relationships between different aspects of health. Health is a multi-faceted concept consisting of various aspects: most commonly morbidity, functional limitation, subjective health, and mortality. LÄS MER
8. Plant colonization of oak plantations - the interactive effects of local environment and land-use history
Sammanfattning : In Europe, only small fragments of deciduous woodlands remain intact and species dependent on this ecosystem have declined. In southern Sweden, a shifting trend during the 20th century, with more afforestations on former arable land, resulted in new oak stands. These new stand are either on former arable fields or on continuously forested land. LÄS MER
9. Egressibility : Applying the concept of accessibility to the self-evacuation of people with functional limitations
Sammanfattning : The population is getting increasingly older, and old age is correlated with decreased functional capacity. In society, continuous improvements in accessibility of public environments is apparent. LÄS MER
10. First Principles Studies of Functional Materials Based on Graphene and Organometallics
Sammanfattning : Graphene is foreseen to be the basis of future electronics owing to its ultra thin structure, extremely high charge carrier mobility, high thermal conductivity etc., which are expected to overcome the size limitation and heat dissipation problem in silicon based transistors. LÄS MER
