51. QCM-D – with focus on biosensing in biomolecular and cellular systems
Sammanfattning : The high degree of complexity in biological systems is being investigated in greater and greater detail by increasingly sophisticated sensing approaches. The quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D) technique stands out in this context, by probing the viscoelastic properties at interfaces. LÄS MER
52. Tidally generated internal waves
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the internal tide in the deep ocean, which is generated by the barotropic tide flowing over the bottom topography. The energy flux from the barotropic tide to the internal-wave field at the bottom is calculated using a method based on linear-wave theory and the traditional WKB approximation valid for a slowing varying vertical stratification. 53. Numerical simulations of flow discharge and behaviours in spillways
Sammanfattning : A spillway is an important component of a dam and serves as a flood release structure. It achieves controlled discharge of water and protects the dam from overtopping. The majority of the hydropower dams were built before the 1980s, and many spillways are undersized in light of the present design flood guidelines. LÄS MER
54. A Comprehensive Approach to Modeling and Control of Thermomechanical Pulping Processes
Sammanfattning : The central issue of the thesis is modeling and control of the Thermomechanical Pulp (TMP) process in which large refiners are used to produce pulp for newsprint. The TMP process is one of the most complex and versatile, electricity consuming industrial processes today. LÄS MER
55. Ultrafast Dynamics in Ground and Excited States of Porphyrin Molecules
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes inter and intramolecular dynamics in porphyrin molecules. To create a basis for understanding the energy and electron transfer processes in photosynthesis, the ultrafast dynamics of monomeric chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and bacteriochlorophyll a were studied with ultrashort laser pulses.
