The access to a research field, and research database between 1994 and 2001 provided an unusual opportunity to study longitudinally the consequences of structural instability in the work environment, as well as personnel health. To answer this question, I study an unexpected and salient tax reform in Iceland in 1987 that resulted in a year free of labor income taxes, but creating only minimal income effects, offering an ideal natural experiment.
