1. Essays on Labor Supply and Adjustment Frictions
Sammanfattning : Labor Supply Responses and Adjustment Frictions: A Tax-Free Year in IcelandHow does labor supply respond to a temporary wage change? To answer this question, I study an unexpected and salient tax reform in Iceland in 1987 that resulted in a year free of labor income taxes, but creating only minimal income effects, offering an ideal natural experiment. I first construct a new employer-employee dataset from digitized administrative records for the population. LÄS MER
2. Essays on intergenerational income mobility, geographical mobility, and education
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of an introductory part and the following four self-contained papers:In Paper [I] we analyze the implications of social identity and self-categorization for optimal redistributive income taxation. A two-type model is supplemented by an assumption that individuals select themselves into social categories, in which norms are formed and education effort choices partly depend on these norms. 3. Finite Volume Methods on Quadrilateral and Moving Meshes
Sammanfattning : The topic of this thesis is the study of finite volume methods for hyperbolic conservation laws on non-uniform meshes. A high-order hyperbolic reconstruction method is presented. The method is constructed for quadrilateral meshes, since more realistic hyperbolic problems involve more complicated problem domains than the standard rectangular ones. LÄS MER
4. Separation of biomolecules using Open-Loop Non-Isocratic Simulated moving bed (SMB) technology
Sammanfattning : In biotechnological industries, downstream processing is a bottleneck in the complete production process. There is a wish to reduce the costs and therefore one tries to operate separation technology in continuous mode. LÄS MER
5. Sustainable Energy Access for All : Initial tools to compare technology options and costs
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents analytical advances to support quantitative insights into national and local policies for achieving energy access goals. The key objective is the creation of an analytical tool to compare technology options for achieving energy access goals and to estimate the cost of reaching those goals. LÄS MER
