31. Arthroscopic Bankart reconstruction using different absorbable tacks. The clinical results, radiographic findings and effect on calcaneal bone mineral
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT The aim of the thesis was to explore the clinical and radiographic results after post- traumatic anterior shoulder instability treated with arthroscopic Bankart surgery using absorbable tacks with different compositions. Further aims were to explore possible effects on bone mineral in the heel bone and health-related quality of life after a shoulder-stabilising surgical procedure. LÄS MER
32. Effects of growth hormone on bone tissue in transgenic mice
Sammanfattning : Growth hormone (GH) affect bone-tissue in both humans and rodents. Also sex steroids are important for growth and the maintenance of normal bone physiology. The specific aims of this study were to investigate how high levels of GH affects bone tissue in mice and to determine whether these effects are dependent on an intact gonadal function. LÄS MER
33. Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery, aspects of graft choice, graft fixation and bone mineral loss
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to measure bone mineral changes in the calcanei, hips and lumbar spine of patients reconstructed with bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB) or hamstring tendon (HT) autografts following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Furthermore, the aim was to compare the clinical results after ACL revision reconstruction with either reharvested ipsilateral or contralateral BPTB autografts. LÄS MER
34. Defining the clinical usefulness of vertebral fracture assessment
Sammanfattning : Objective: Vertebral fractures (VFs) are the most common osteoporotic fracture and among the strongest predictors for future fracture. VFs can be identified by vertebral fracture assessment (VFA) from lateral spine imaging (LSI) by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). LÄS MER
35. Bone Mineral Density Determination in Children. Evaluation of a novel method and application to Duchenne muscular dystrophy
Sammanfattning : Aims: The overall aims of this thesis were to evaluate the dual-energy X-ray and laser (DXL) method for bone densitometry measurements of the calcaneus in children, to provide reference data for bone mineral density (BMD) in the heel bone in young children and to apply the DXL technique to patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and conduct a survey about bone health of DMD patients. Study populations and methods: The DXL Calscan method was modified and adapted for measurements in children and applied to bone densitometry in all subsequent studies. LÄS MER
