21. Altered body composition in adults with complex congenital heart disease
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Thanks to achievements in paediatric heart surgery and medicine, the population of adults with surgically repaired or palliated congenital heart defects is growing. Many of these adults have reduced exercise capacity, weaker muscular strength and shorter height, all of which suggest an altered body composition. LÄS MER
22. Assessment of skeletal structure by MR relaxometry
Sammanfattning : Introduction: More than 40 per cent of all women older than 50 years will suffer from a hip, wrist or vertebral fracture. Most of these fractures are related to bone fragility, osteoporosis. If the disease is diagnosed and treated at an early stage the risk of fracture can be decreased. LÄS MER
23. Bone density, bone geometry and bone development in young men - the importance of pubertal timing and fracture history
Sammanfattning : Background and objective: Peak bone mass, the maximal bone mass attained in young adulthood, is an important factor of the lifetime risk of developing osteoporosis. The aim of this thesis was to study the development of bone mineral density (BMD) and bone geometry around the time of peak bone mass in men, and also to investigate the association between pubertal timing, fracture history, bone turnover markers and BMD and bone geometry in young men. 24. Effects on cardiac output distribution of propranolol, verapamil and epidural blockade during continuous positive-pressure ventilation : An experimental study in the pig
Sammanfattning : The blood perfusion of all body regions is governed by local vasoregulation, and systemic humoral and neural impulses provide additional tuning of vascular tone. Is the regulation of circulation centralised or, in other words, is the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) superior to local autoregulation of the perfusion of vital organs? Using the microsphere method and acquired data on the body composition of the pig, it was possible to interpret the absolute distribution of cardiac output (CO) and flux changes between organs and tissues. 25. Assessment of Body Composition Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Sammanfattning : Methods for assessment of body composition allow studies of the complex relationships between body composition and the wellbeing of humans. The amount and distribution of adipose tissue is of great importance in these studies. LÄS MER
