  1. 11. Models of porous, elastic and rigid materials in moving fluids

    Författare :Ugis Lacis; Shervin Bagheri; Fredrik Lundell; Lakshminarayanan Mahadevan; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fluid-structure-interaction; flow control; passive appendages; homogenization; poroelastic coatings; separated flows; surface-fluid interface; fluid-struktur-interaktion; flödeskontroll; passiva utväxter; homogenisering; ytbeläggning; separerade strömning; ytbeläggning-strömning gränssnitt; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : Tails, fins, scales, and surface coatings are used by organisms for various tasks, including locomotion. Since millions of years of evolution have passed, we expect that the design of surface structures is optimal for the tasks of the organism. These structures serve as an inspiration in this thesis to identify new mechanisms for flow control. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Nature-inspired passive flow control using various coatings and appendages

    Författare :Ugis Lacis; Shervin Bagheri; Christophe Eloy; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flow control; passive appendage; surface coating; pressure drag; friction drag; Flödeskontroll; passiva bihang; ytbeläggning; tryckmotstånd; friktionsmotstånd;

    Sammanfattning : There is a wide variety of tails, fins, scales, riblets and surface coatings, which are used by motile animals in nature. Since organisms currently living on earth have gone through millions of years of evolution, one can expect that their design is optimal for their tasks, including locomotion. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The Hydrodynamics of Waterjet/Hull Interaction

    Författare :Arash Eslamdoost; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; trim angle; vena-contracta; transom clearance; net thrust; waterjet hull interaction; waterjet propulsion; capture area; exit drag; non-linear free-surface; intake drag; gross thrust; sinkage; streamtube; RANS; thrust deduction; potential flow; VOF;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of the present investigation is to explore the physics behind the waterjet/hull interaction, and in particular the negative thrust deduction often reported in the semi-planing speed range. Another objective is to propose a validated numerical technique for computing the hydrodynamics of waterjet-driven hulls. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Particle-fluid interactions under heterogeneous reactions

    Författare :Thamali Rajika Jayawickrama; Kentaro Umeki; Nils Erland L. Haugen; Matthaus Babler; Muhammad Aqib Chishty; Henrik Ström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Stefan flow; drag coefficient; Nusselt number; Sherwood number; particle-fluid flow; reacting flow; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Particle-fluid flows are involved in many natural processes and industrial applications; some examples are drying, solid fuel combustion, gasification, and catalytic cracking. It is vital to understand the phenomena involved in particle-fluid flows in depth for design, predictions and process improvements. LÄS MER
