  1. 6. Neurotransmission in CNS regions involved in pain modulation : neurochemical effects of analgesic drugs and spinal cord stimulation in the spinal cord and midbrain periaqueductal grey of the rat

    Författare :Carl-Olav Stiller; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adenosine; dorsal horn; GABA; microdialysis; neurotensin; opioids; periaqueductal gray; sciatic nerve lesion; receptor binding; spinal cord stimulation; substance P.;

    Sammanfattning : The dorsal hom of the spinal cord and the midbrain penaqueductal grey matter (PAG) are important regions for pain modulation. In this thesis the effects of opioids and spinal cord stimulation (SCS) on the release of gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA), substance P (SP) and neurotensin (NT) were investigated in these regions of the rat by in vivo microdialysis. 2. 7. The effects of neurotrophic substances on primary sensory neurons following peripheral nerve injury

    Författare :Petri Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :DRG; dorsal horn; NGF; BDNF; NT-3; substance P; calcitonin gene-related peptide; fluoride-resistant acid phosphatase; carbonic anhydrase; microglia; astroglia;

    Sammanfattning : Sensory impulses from the periphery is transmitted by primary sensory neurons located in dorsal root and cranial nerve ganglia. The primary sensory neurons are phenotypically diverse with regard to their expression of various chemical components. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Role of calcitonin gene-related peptide in nociception : interactions with substance P and opioids

    Författare :Long-Chuan Yu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Calcitonin gene-related peptide CGRP ; CGRP8-37; CGRP-like immunoreactivity; carrageenan; dorsal horn; dorsal root ganglion DRG ; experimentally-induced inflammtion ß-funaltrexamine ß-FNA ; hindpaw withdrawl latency HWL ; hot-plate test; ;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a study of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and its antagonist CGRP8-37 and the interactions with substance P and opioids on the transmission of presumed nociceptive information at the spinal cord level in the rat. Significant bilateral increases in hindpaw withdrawal latency (HWL) to heat and mechanical stimulation were induced dose-dependently by intrathecal administration of 5 or 10 but no 1 nmol of CGRP8-37. 4. 9. On the cholinergic c-bouton

    Författare :Johan Hellström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Acetylcholine; Brainstem; Immunohistochemistry; In situ hybridization; Motoneurons; Muscarinic receptors; Rat; Spinal cord; Ventral horn cells;

    Sammanfattning : The cholinergic C-bouton is a large nerve terminal type exclusively contacting motoneuron cell somata and proximal dendrites. C-boutons are characterized by subsurface cisterns found beneath the postsynaptic membrane, which is an exclusive feature for these nerve terminals. The origin of the C-boutons is unknown. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Regulation of signaling molecules in sensory neurons and spinal cord : studies on nerve injury models and transgenic mice

    Författare :Tie-Jun Shi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Behaviour; cell loss; dorsal root ganglion; immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; mRNA; nerve injury; neuropathic pain; neuropeptides; nociception; primary sensory neuron; spinal cord.;

    Sammanfattning : Nerve injury may cause neuropathic pain in patients. Similar symptoms can also be seen in some animal models. LÄS MER
