1. Image-based quantitative infrared analysis and microparticle characterisation for pulp and paper applications
Sammanfattning : Measurements of process variations and particle morphology are widely employed in the pulp and paper industry. Two techniques with high potential, infrared thermography and microparticle characterisation, are mainly used qualitatively. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines ways of including edge diffraction and surface scattering to improve room acoustics auralization, i.e., the binaural replication of an acoustic environment. The approach combines numerical and psychoacoustical studies to discern what level of computational accuracy is necessary to obtain perceptually adequate replication. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the synthesis methods and the characterizations of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles, silica spheres with Fe3O4 nanoparticles embedded, and three dimensional magnetic photonic crystals (MPCs) prepared from the spheres. The structure, material composition, magnetic and optical properties, photonic band gaps (PBGs), as well as how these properties depend on the concentration of the magnetic nanoparticles, are investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), Faraday rotation (FR) and optical spectrophotometers. Sammanfattning : Since their discovery about 100 years ago, tools made of hard metals have been the enablers of development in various areas: from drilling subway lines for more sustainable cities to the machining of complex next-generation airplane engine parts for reduced CO2 emissions. An increase in properties of hard metals thus leads to efficient operations with shorter lead-time, less environmental footprint, and reduced cost. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Diode laser spectroscopy performed in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared spectral regions is presented. The accessible wavelength range for visible and near-infrared diode lasers is extended by the use of sum- and difference-frequency generation. LÄS MER
