1. Interplay Between Phospholipids and Digalactosyldiacylglycerol in Phosphate Limited Oats
Sammanfattning : Phosphate is an essential nutrient. In most soils it is limiting, which has resulted in that phosphate is supplied as fertilizer to increase crop yield. Through evolution, plants have adapted several mechanisms to increase phosphate uptake from the soil and to household with acquired phosphate. LÄS MER
2. Crystallographic studies of enzymes involved in biosynthesis of fatty acids : beta-ketoacyl-acyl carrier protein synthase II and delta9-stearoyl-ACP desaturase
Sammanfattning : In the biosynthesis of fatty acids, the beta-Ketoacyl Acyl Carrier Protein Synthases (Kas) catalyse chain elongation by the addition of two-carbon units derived from malonyl-ACP, to an acyl group bound to CoA or the small protein ACP. These enzymes are potential targets for antibiotics against bacterial or parasitical infections and their mammalian counterparts could hopefully be used as drug targets against certain cancers and obesity. 3. Metabolic signals and the ATP-sensitive potassium channel in the pancreatic beta-cell
Sammanfattning : ATP-sensitive K+ (KATP) channels are widely distributed in a variety of tissues and cell types. KATP channels are comprised of two subunits, a pore forming subunit (Kir6.x) and a regulatory sulfonylurea receptor (SURx). Both subunits are required for fully functional channels. LÄS MER
4. Lipase Specificity and Selectivity : Engineering, Kinetics and Applied Catalysis
Sammanfattning : The specificity and selectivity of the enzyme Candida antarctica lipase B (CALB) were studiedfor several substrates and applications. With help of molecular modeling, the active site of CALB was redesigned for the ring openingpolymerization of D,D‐lactide. LÄS MER
5. Stereo- and enantioselective synthesis using palladium, ruthenium and enzyme catalysis
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the use of palladium and ruthenium, with the latter in combination with enzymes, as selective catalysts in the transformation of organic substrates is discussed. The thesis is divided into two parts. LÄS MER
