11. Regulation of insulin producing cells, stress responses and metabolism in Drosophila
Sammanfattning : In Drosophila, neuropeptides have regulatory roles in development, growth, metabolism and reproduction. This study focused on GABA and the neuropeptides Drosophila tachykinin (DTK), short neuropeptide F (sNPF), adipokinetic hormone (AKH), corazonin (CRZ) and Drosophila insulin-like peptides (DILPs) as possible regulators of metabolic stress responses and homeostasis. 12. Genetic variation and local adaptation in peripheral populations of toads
Sammanfattning : Northern fringe populations generally have low amounts of genetic variation and inhabit habitats where specific adaptations are needed. On the Swedish west coast, the natterjack toad (Bufo calamita) inhabits skerry islands. LÄS MER
13. Steel fibrous cement based composites: material and mechanical properties : behavior in the anchorage zones of prestressed bridges
Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis is divided into two parts. Part one dealswith the development of the material and the mechanicalproperties of Steel Fibrous Cement Based Composites (SFCBC) forimproving bridge design and construction. It familiarizes thehydration mechanisms of the high performance concrete with thehelp of Powers´ and Jensen´s models. LÄS MER
14. Foreign molecules in biomembranes : Molecular effects on intact stratum corneum and model lipid systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis mainly explores how the molecular mobility of lipid and protein components in the outermost layer of the skin, the stratum corneum (SC), varies with different conditions and upon adding foreign compounds. These studies require methods that makes it possible to detect and characterize the minor amount of fluid components in the highly ordered solid SC sample with resolved molecular information. LÄS MER
15. Thermal Crack Risk Estimation and Material Properties of Young Concrete
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents how to establish a theoretical model to predict risk of thermal cracking in young concrete when cast on ground or an arbitrary construction. The crack risk in young concrete is determined in two steps: 1) calculation of temperature distribution within newly cast concrete and adjacent structure; 2) calculation of stresses caused by thermal and moisture (due to self-desiccation, if drying shrinkage not included) changes in the analyzed structure.
