  1. 36. Measures to prevent microembolization in cardiac surgery and during angiography with special reference to carbon dioxide

    Författare :Jesper Nyman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiovascular interventions including open heart surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) and coronary angiography may introduce air and particulate arterial embolism that may lead to tissue lesions of the brain and other organs. Aims: To assess: if CO2-insufflation of an empty CPB circuit decreases number of gaseous emboli in the prime compared with a conventional CPB circuit, which holds air before fluid priming (Study I); the efficacy of a new mini-diffuser device for CO2 de-airing in a minimally invasive open cardiothoracic wound cavity model and in patients undergoing minimally invasive open aortic valve surgery (Study II); if an extra separate venous reservoir abolishes CO2-insufflation induced hypercapnia and retains sweep gas flow of the oxygenator constant during open heart surgery (Study III); if there is a difference in the incidence of cerebral microemboli when using either the femoral or the radial approach during coronary angiography (Study IV). 2. 37. Studies on vasoactivity of fibrin(ogen) derived peptides

    Författare :Katarina Saldeen; Asrar Malik; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Fibrin ogen derived peptides; vasoactivity; prostacyclin; nitric oxide; angiotensin converting enzyme; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Fibrin accumulation is a common fmding in many pathological conditions, such as in inflammatory processes, e.g. in the lungs in pneumonia or pulmonary insufficiency after sepsis. During lysis of the fibrin by plasmin or leukocyte elastase, peptides are released that may contribute to the pathophysiological changes. LÄS MER

  3. 38. Evaluation of Automatic Quantification Programs for Myocardial Perfusion SPECT using Monte Carlo Simulations

    Författare :Henrik Hussein El Ali; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; radiologi; Klinisk fysiologi; medical instrumentation; Severity; Monte Carlo; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; Myocardial perfusion; Extent;

    Sammanfattning : Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a condition in which the blood supply to the myocardium is partially or completely blocked due to plaque build-up in the artery wall. Myocardial SPECT imaging is a commonly used technique to assess the blood flow to the myocardium and the function of the heart. LÄS MER

  4. 39. Pharmacological interventions against myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury

    Författare :Lars O Karlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Myocardial reperfusion injury; opioids; cyclosporine A;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Ischaemic heart disease is the leading cause of death in the industrialised world. Although the concept of early restoration of coronary blood-flow constitutes an important factor to reduce the injury caused by myocardial ischaemia, reperfusion in itself can aggravate the damage to myocardial tissue, a phenomenon denoted myocardial reperfusion injury. 5. 40. Endothelial dysfunction in the pulmanory circulation after cardiopulmonary bybass : with special reference to the reactivity to acetylcholine

    Författare :Monika Angdin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Acetylcholine; acetylcysteine; allopurinol; antioxidants; cardiopulmonary bypass; heart surgery; L-arginine; nitric oxide; pulmonary circulation; reperfusion injury; vascular resistance; vitamin C; vitamin E.;

    Sammanfattning : The endothelium is important as a physical barrier between the bloodstream and the body tissues. It also plays an important role in the control of vasomotor tone, coagulation, and for the interaction between the vessel wall, leukocytes and platelets. One of the most important regulators released from the endothelium is nitric oxide (NO). LÄS MER
