16. Movement artifact reduction in laser Doppler blood flowmetry : myocardial perfusion applications
Sammanfattning : Laser Doppler perfusion monitoring (LDPM) and imaging (LDPI) enable assessment of tissue microvascular perfusion. The techniques are based on the Doppler broadening of the optical spectrum occurring when coherent laser light is scattered by moving red blood cells (RBC). LÄS MER
17. Studies on platelet function and microvesicles in acute coronary syndrome
Sammanfattning : INTRODUCTION: The cornerstone of treatment of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and dual antiplatelet therapy (DAT) with aspirin and the ADP-receptor inhibitor clopidogrel. However, some ACS patients will suffer from recurrent cardiovascular events, and it has been shown that this may partly be due to an insufficient antiplatelet response to DAT. LÄS MER
18. Cardiovascular dysfunction in obstructive sleep apnea
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses relationships between the presence or severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and blood pressure (BP) as well as other signs of cardiovascular dysfunction. In a cross-sectional investigation of a sleep laboratory cohort of 81 patients, a dose response relationship was observed between the number of apneas plus hypopneas per hour of sleep (apnea-hypopnea index, AHI; measured with polysomnography) and office systolic and diastolic BP (SBP and DBP), daytime ambulatory DBP as well as nighttime ambulatory SBP and DBP (all ambulatory measurements taken at 20-minute intervals). 19. Cardiac effects of non-adrenergic inotropic drugs : clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : Background: Myocardial failure and dysfunction is not uncommon during critical illness and following cardiac surgery. For optimal treatment, a better understanding of the effects of inotropic drugs is needed. In this thesis, two non-adrenergic mediated inotropes, milrinone and levosimendan were studied in different models of myocardial dysfunction. LÄS MER
20. Cellular markers indicating activation of the hemostatic system : studies on platelets and leukocytes in peripheral human blood
Sammanfattning : Platelet activation is supposed to initiate thrombus formation in many clinical settings such as coronary artery occlusions, stroke, diabetes mellitus complications, and in surgical interventions. Coagulation and thrombosis are also associated with inflammation in septicemia. LÄS MER
