11. Assessment of bio-based fuel ash effects on magnesia refractory materials in quicklime production kilns
Sammanfattning : Limestone is calcined into quicklime in lime kilns at temperatures above 1000°C. Heat is supplied through combustion inside the kilns, which are insulated with a lining of refractory bricks to mitigate heat loss and to protect the kiln from the hot, chemically aggressive, and mechanically abrasive environment. 12. Thermally homogenous gasification of biomass/coal/waste for medium or high calorific value syngas production
Sammanfattning : Today’s problems with emissions of green house gases, land filling of waste and depletion of the oil reserves calls for new energy systems based on alternative fuels like biomass and waste. Gasification is an attractive technology for the use of such solid fuels. LÄS MER
13. Sveagruvan : svensk gruvhantering mellan industri, diplomati och geovetenskap 1910-1934
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the development of a mining industry in Spitsbergen and its relationship to Swedish scientific polar research. The empirical focus is the history of Swedish coal mining on Spitsbergen between 1910 and 1934 and the mining activities at Sveagruvan 1917-1925. LÄS MER
14. Forest Biomass Production Potential and its Implications for Carbon Balance
Sammanfattning : An integrated methodological approach is used to analyse the forestbiomass production potential in the Middle Norrland region of Sweden, and itsuse to reduce carbon emissions. Forest biomass production, forest management, biomass harvest, and forest product use are analyzed in a system perspectiveconsidering the entire resource flow chains. LÄS MER
15. Egypt Ignited : How Steam Power Arrived on the Nile and Integrated Egypt into Industrial Capitalism (1820s-76)
Sammanfattning : How did fossil-fuelled technology find its way to Egypt on its way to global dominance? This thesis presents a socioecological history of energy technologies in agrarian production in pre-colonial Egypt (1820s – 76). It situates them in the nineteenth century, understood as the beginning of the epoch of the Capitalocene; and in Egypt’s case, this is simultaneously part of the rise of Britain’s fossil empire.
