Sammanfattning : In Scandinavia, sawlogs are typically sorted upon arrival at the sawmill. Presorting of sawlogs according to dimension, e.g., using an optical three-dimensional (3D) scanner, is used to make the sawing process more efficient. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : In the Nordic countries, sawlogs are typically sorted upon arrival at the sawmill based on species and dimension. By processing batches of logs with similar size, the sawing process becomes more efficient; the need to change sawing pattern between individual logs is reduced, and the handling of sawn goods is simplified, since the number of different dimensions produced simultaneously decreases. 3. Mechanical properties of sound and of deteriorated softwood at different length scales : Poromicromechanical modeling and experimental investigations
Sammanfattning : Due to its natural origin and its inherent heterogeneities, mechanical properties of wood are highly anisotropic and show a broad variability, not only between different wood species, but also within a tree. Similar to other biological materials, the wood mi- crostructure is well organized and hierarchically structured from the annual rings visible to the naked eye down to the wood polymers cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin at the nanometer-scale. 4. Nonlinear modeling of reinforced dowel joints in timber structures : a combined experimental-numerical study
Sammanfattning : Steel dowels are indispensable elements for the design of joints in modern timber structures. Dowels are broadly used because of their flexibility in design and easy assembling on-site, as well as due to their advantageous mechanical behavior. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : An integrated methodological approach is used to analyse the forest biomass production potential in the Middle Norrland region of Sweden, and its use to reduce carbon emissions. Forest biomass production, forest management, biomass harvest, and forest product use are analyzed in a system perspective considering the entire resource flow chains. LÄS MER
