  1. 26. Habitat use in fish communities : size- and environment-dependent mechanisms affecting biotic interactions and population regulation

    Författare :Ulrika Beier; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Through the influence of abiotic factors, the habitat use of organisms affects their metabolism as well as other species- and size-dependent individual-based rates. The habitat-specific performances of individuals interacting in different habitats thereby affect biotic interactions. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Tracing water transport pathways in the coupled ocean-atmosphere system

    Författare :Dipanjan Dey; Kristofer Döös; Aitor Aldama Campino; David Ferreira; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrological cycle; inter-ocean atmospheric water transport; water-mass conservation; atmospheric water trajectories; overturning water-mass stream functions; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : Water is the most precious substance on the Earth and thus it is important to know how it moves around and is recycled.This knowledge will be useful to formulate educated future strategies about water usage in society and also to understand the near-surface salinity contrasts in the world ocean. 3. 28. Quantitative controls on the routing of supraglacial meltwater to the bed of glaciers and ice sheets

    Författare :Caroline Clason; Douglas Mair; Peter Nienow; University of Aberdeen Geography and Environment; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glaciers Greenland Moulins Supraglacial Crevasses Modelling; geografi med naturgeografisk inriktning; Geography; Physical Geography; Hydrology; hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : The influence of seasonal influx of supraglacial meltwater on basal water pressures and consequent changes in ice surface velocity has been a focus of research spanning over three decades, particularly focussing on alpine glaciers. Now, with increased recognition for a need to better include glacial hydrology within models of ice dynamics and ice sheet evolution, the ability to predict where and when meltwater is delivered to the subglacial system is paramount, both for understanding the dynamics of alpine glaciers, and of large Arctic ice masses. 4. 29. Global and continental perspectives on the sustainability of future agricultural water management

    Författare :Luigi Piemontese; Fernando Jaramillo; Luigia Brandimarte; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; water; sustainable water management; agriculture; water harvesting; climate change; Sustainability Science; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : Ensuring water and food security in the Anthropocene requires an understanding of combined climate change patterns and land and water management options from local to global scale. In many regions, irrigation from river and groundwater sources is being used at unsustainable rates and climate change will further threaten those water sources. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Forest-savanna transitions: Understanding adaptation and resilience of the tropical forest ecosystems using remote sensing

    Författare :Chandrakant Singh; Ingo Fetzer; Lan Wang-Erlandsson; Ruud van der Ent; Stefano Manzoni; Udita Sanga; Vivian Ribeiro; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap; Ecology and Evolution; ekologi och evolution; Hydrology; hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Climate and deforestation-induced changes in precipitation drive tropical forest-savanna transitions. However, precipitation alone provides a superficial understanding of the underlying mechanism behind these transitions. This is because our knowledge of how vegetation responds to changes in hydroclimate is fragmented. LÄS MER
