  1. 36. Hydrological and sediment yield modelling in Lake Tana Basin, Blue Nile Ethiopia

    Författare :Shimelis Gebriye Setegn; Bijan Dargahi; Anders Wörman; C. Green Rossi; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SWAT; Lake Tana; Blue Nile; hydrological modelling; watershed modelling; MCE; SUFI-2; GLUE; ParaSol; streamflows; sediment yield; erosion; water balance; model calibration; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Land and water resources degradation are the major problems on the Ethiopian highlands. Poor land use practices and improper management systems have played a significant role in causing high soil erosion rates, sediment transport and loss of agricultural nutrients. So far limited meas-ures have been taken to combat the problems. LÄS MER

  2. 37. Ocean Climate Variability over Recent Centuries Explored by Modelling the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Daniel Hansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baltic Sea; ocean climate; modelling; reconsstruction; water temperature; sea ice; river runoff; salinity; oxygen concentration; long-term;

    Sammanfattning : Natural variability and anthropogenic factors both contribute to changes in the ocean climate of the Baltic Sea. Observations over the past century indicate that changes in environmental settings and ocean climate have taken place, attracting considerable media attention and building public awareness of climate and environmental issues related to the Baltic Sea. 3. 38. Hydrology and Bed Topography of the Greenland Ice Sheet : Last known surroundings

    Författare :Katrin Lindbäck; Rickard Pettersson; Francisco Navarro; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate change; Greenland Ice Sheet; radio-echo sounding; digital elevation models; ice thickness; bed topography; spectral analysis; roughness; subglacial hydrology; water piracy; englacial features; drainage catchments; meltwater runoff; ice dynamics; klimatförändringar; Grönlands inlandsis; markbaserad radar; digitala höjdmodeller; istjocklek; bottentopografi; spektralanalys; subglacial hydrologi; englaciala strukturer; avrinningsområden; isdynamik;

    Sammanfattning : The increased temperatures in the Arctic accelerate the loss of land based ice stored in glaciers. The Greenland Ice Sheet is the largest ice mass in the Northern Hemisphere and holds ~10% of all the freshwater on Earth, equivalent to ~7 metres of global sea level rise. LÄS MER

  4. 39. Microbial communities : descriptors of environmental change in marine ecosystems

    Författare :Li Zhao; Agneta Andersson; Xiao-Ru Wang; Alexander Eiler; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In northern marginal seas, like the northern Baltic Sea, climate change will lead to many alterations, for example increased inflows of nutrients and dissolved organic matter (DOM). Nutrients and DOM are fundamental drivers shaping marine microbial communities, including both bacterial and phytoplankton populations. LÄS MER

  5. 40. Ecosystem services of wetlands and wetlandscapes under hydro-climatic change : Impacts of water flow and inundation patterns

    Författare :Imenne Åhlén; Jerker Jarsjö; Peter Hambäck; Georgia Destouni; Andrew Frampton; Heather E. Golden; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrology; Ecohydrology; Wetlands; Wetlandscapes; Ecosystem services; Spatial Ecology; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Wetlands provide ecosystem services valuable for human society and are therefore often considered as nature based solution to different environmental problems. However, with centuries of wetland degradation due to anthropogenic pressures, such as agricultural expansion and forest industry, as well as pressures from climate change, there are large challenges for sustainable wetland management.
