1. Application of Raman and Fluorescence Spectroscopy to Single Chromatographic Beads
Sammanfattning : Chromatography is a powerful technique, essential in chemical analyses and preparative separation in industry and research. Many different kinds of chromatographic material are needed, due to the large variety of applications. Detailed methods of characterisation are needed to design new chromatographic materials and understand their properties. LÄS MER
2. Pharmacokinetics of mercury from dental amalgam
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the present work has been to obtain quantitative and qualitative data on mercury from dental amalgam in humans. The influence of amalgam removal on mercury levels in blood, plasma and urine has been studied in twelve volunteers. All amalgam fillings were removed during one dental session. LÄS MER
3. Reactivity and Selectivity Studies in Iridium-Catalyzed Asymmetric Hydrogenation
Sammanfattning : Transition-metal catalyzed stereoselective hydrogenation constitutes an indispensable method for the preparation of chiral molecules. The work in this thesis describes the development of efficient catalytic asymmetric hydrogenations with a focus on the elucidation of reactivity patterns and chemoselectivity in hydrogenations. 4. Labelling of various macromolecules using positron emitting 76Br and 68Ga : Synthesis and characterisation
Sammanfattning : Different prosthetic groups containing a trialkylstannyl- and an electrophilic group have been synthesised and labelled with the accelerator produced 76Br (T1/2=16 h) through oxidative bromination. The labelled prosthetic groups were conjugated to amino-containing macromolecules such as proteins and 5´-modified oligonucleotides. LÄS MER
5. Protection of Biomolecules by Antioxidants - Mechanisms and Applications
Sammanfattning : Reactive oxygen species (ROS) consisting of various oxygen-based free radicals as well as other reactive non-radical species produced in O2-related metabolism or through other processes are involved in the oxidation of such vital biomolecules as DNA, proteins and lipids. The types of oxidation represented here are known to cause many different diseases and disorders in human beings, such as cancer, Alzheimer's disease and ageing. LÄS MER
